                        UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON

<http://www.sba.udayton.edu/mod/openings/mod005.asp>

Position Description
The opening is for a tenure-track position in Operations Management at the rank
of Assistant Professor (rank of Associate Professor is negotiable given
qualifications). The expected starting date is August 16, 2007. Teaching load
and the compensation package, including summer research support, are
competitive and depend on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
For example, a typical new Assistant Professor has a teaching load of four
courses per year for three years and some summer research support.

Required and Desired Qualifications
Required: A Ph.D. in Operations Management (or a closely-related discipline) is
required by the starting date or soon thereafter. Evidence of the potential for
high quality scholarly publications is expected. The candidate must have the
ability and desire to teach effectively both undergraduate and MBA courses, and
possess teaching and research capabilities and interests in the areas of
operations planning and control, business process analysis, and/or supply chain
management. The candidate must be sincerely dedicated to students and
educational programs and measured interaction with the business community.

Desired: Desirable characteristics include recognition of excellence in teaching
in one or more of the above areas, evidence of an established ongoing research
program, and prior professional experience. Consistent with our interest in
diversity, we seek an individual who is open to diverse research methodologies,
teaching techniques including team teaching, and collaboration with department
colleagues.

Department of MIS, Operations Management, & Decision Sciences
(www.sba.udayton.edu/MOD)
The Department of MIS, Operations Management, & Decision Sciences offers
undergraduate majors in MIS and Operations Management and supports MBA
concentrations in MIS, Operations Management, and Technology-Enhanced Business
(e-Business). It also offers undergraduate minors in Decision Sciences,
e-Business, MIS, and Operations Management, and post-masters certificates in
MIS and Operations Management. The Department is responsible for supporting
all business undergraduates and MBA students with courses in MIS, Operations
Management, Management Science, and Statistics. The recently designed
undergraduate OM major features an applied capstone course in which students
work with local organizations. Currently the OM major averages about 28
students per year, who are typically very well placed in the job market.

The Department faculty are well known for their research, teaching, and
professional service. Recent faculty accomplishments include publishing
numerous articles in major journals as well as several widely-adopted text
books. Faculty from the Department have served in editorial positions of
leading academic journals and as key officers in major professional
organizations.

An OM Advisory Council (OMAC), composed of senior OM executives from local and
national organizations, regularly interacts with the Department faculty and
students, and provides guidance in areas such as curriculum development,
research activities, and student employment. OMAC is also a valuable source of
student projects and guest speakers in courses. An OM distinguished speaker
series invites at least one highly-accomplished scholar in the OM arena to
visit the Department every year. The department has a similar advisory board
and speaker series in MIS.

School of Business Administration (www.sba.udayton.edu)
The School of Business Administration is accredited by AACSB International. It
offers nine undergraduate majors through four academic departments, as well as
an MBA. The undergraduate program enrolls primarily full-time, residential
students and graduates around 375 students per year. The MBA program consists
primarily of part-time, working students and graduates around 200 students per
year. The School includes a business research center, an entrepreneurship
center, a center for portfolio management and security analysis, as well as an
executive education unit formed with business partners from the greater Dayton
area. The school has well-established international programs with major
universities in several countries including France and Germany. A School of
Business Administration campus in Thailand is scheduled to open in 2007. A
business advisory council of about 30 senior executives from across the US
advises the Dean on planning and development issues.

University of Dayton (www.udayton.edu)
The University of Dayton (UD) is one of the nation's ten largest Catholic
universities, founded in 1850 by the Society of Mary (Marianists), a Roman
Catholic teaching order. With approximately 11,000 students, UD is the largest
private university in Ohio. It consists of a College of Arts and Sciences and
Schools of Business Administration, Education, Engineering, and Law. It is
ranked as a top-tier national university in the 2005 issue of America's Best
Colleges from U.S. News and World Report, and a "best college" in the 2006
guide The Best 361 Colleges from The Princeton Review. UD has been named one
of the country's "most entrepreneurial campuses" by The Princeton Review and
Forbes.com. Yahoo! and other sources have recognized UD as the top wired
university in Ohio and the most wired Catholic university in the nation, and
more recently, Intel has recognized Dayton as one of the most "unwired" (i.e.
wireless-accessible) campuses in the US. The University's 250-acre campus is
located at the southern edge of Dayton, Ohio, which has a population of about
one million in the greater metropolitan area. Dayton has a vibrant business
community and is the home of Fortune 500 corporate and divisional headquarters
as well as a number of smaller, dynamic enterprises. It is also the location
of the largest Air Force R&D Center in the country (Wright-Patterson AFB). UD
is actively involved with the IT Alliance and the i-Zone, associations that
represent the many high technology providers, consumers, and entrepreneurs in
the Dayton area.

Application Procedure
