The Department of Anthropology, University of Michigan, invites applications for an assistant professor or early associate professor appointment to begin in September 2017. We are interested in scholars whose research addresses politics and processes of racialization and ethnic formation in North America from an anthropological perspective. Potential topics of interest include, but are not limited to: new approaches to and theories about diversity; democratic participation and the politics of care; media and expressive culture; political economy and inequality; environmental racism and health disparities; policing, surveillance, and incarceration; civil rights and related social movements; and intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and class. Depth of ethnographic knowledge and the ability to address questions of theoretical and comparative significance will be crucial. Applications are due September 15, 2016.
