The position below is posted at www.drexeljobs.com<http://www.drexeljobs.com/>. If you put "STS" in the search box, the position will come up. The STS position number is: 7681.

Assistant Professor, Center for Science, Technology, and Society [STS], Drexel University

The Center for Science, Technology, and Society [STS] expects to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor. We invite applications for this expected position at this time. The successful applicant would begin September 1, 2017. This position continues the re-invigoration of the research potential of the STS Center at Drexel University, which included the successful recruitment of a new Director in 2011, an Assistant Professor and Associate Professor in 2012, and an Assistant Professor in 2013. The position will be a joint appointment with the successful candidate’s appropriate disciplinary department (e.g. global studies, anthropology, history, political science, sociology, etc.)

We are primarily interested in candidates who investigate the social and political dimensions of information technologies and/or digital infrastructures, especially as those relate to uneven distributions of power. Faculty expertise could, for example, be in the historical, cultural and political dimensions of the development and use of smart grids, patient health records, or digital media; issues of privacy, surveillance and big data; changes in regulatory structures and policies related to information technologies; access to information technologies; and/or the identities and communities created in digital worlds. Although open to any areas of study, we encourage scholars with an international or comparative focus to apply. Computing and society are central to Drexel's strategic plan, and the STS Center would like our new colleague to contribute to this area. We are especially interested in applicants with grounding in the field of STS, and strong methodological skills (e.g., in-depth interviews, focus groups, archival research, fieldwork, GIS or statistics). Applicants' degrees could potentially be in science and technology studies, political science, sociology, anthropology, history, or other relevant fields. We expect that this person's research and teaching, at both undergraduate and graduate levels, will contribute to the STS graduate program and the successful applicant’s disciplinary department, and that our new colleague will participate in and initiate collaborations across the Schools, Colleges, and Centers at Drexel.

Candidates should include: 1) a cover letter; 2) curriculum vitae; 3) up to three samples of your scholarly writing; and 4) the names, institutional affiliation, and email addresses only of at least three references. Please do not submit reference letters at this time as such letters will be requested at a later date for short-listed applicants. All applications must be submitted online at www.drexeljobs.com<http://www.drexeljobs.com/>. The successful applicant must have completed all requirements for their Ph.D. by August 15, 2017.

Review of applications will begin October 15, 2016 and continue until filled. Please address all queries to Prof. Kelly Joyce at kelly.a.joyce at drexel.edu<mailto:kelly.a.joyce at drexel.edu>.

Drexel University offers an attractive benefits package including tuition remission, a generous retirement package with matching funds (up to 11%) and an opportunity to join a talented team of professionals directly helping the University achieve its record growth and quality reputation.

Background investigations are required for all new hires as a condition of employment, after the job offer is made. Employment will be contingent upon the University's acceptance of the results of the background investigation.

Drexel University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. The Center for STS is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community.
