*Publishing Smart: A hands on Workshop*

Many publishing options exist for grad students, along with their
associated legalese and authors' rights issues. With these in mind,
how and where should you therefore publish? If you're confused
(or just curious), don't fear: Ellen Finnie Duranceau and Matthew
VanSleet from the MIT Libraries will demystify these issues for you!
This informal workshop will address what copyright means to you as
an author, how you can access a publisher's copyright policies, and
how you can use web-based tools that assess journal quality.
Sponsored by GSC and the MIT Libraries.

Time: Friday, Nov 21 from 11-12pm
Location: 14N-132 (DIRC)

*Kick-Butt Great American Smokeout Contest*

Wile E. Coyotes vs. Cig-ARRETE
Thursday, November 20th, 12:15 p.m., E25 Atrium

To mark this year's Great American Smokeout, MIT Medical is
sponsoring a "Kick-Butt" contest. The participating teams have each
built a deliberately over-engineered mechanical apparatus that will
perform the simple task of extinguishing a cigarette in an extremely
indirect and convoluted fashion. The teams will compete for a grand
prize of $750. All are welcome to come and observe the machines in
action! This event is co-sponsored by the TechHealth Alliance and the
MIT Chapter of the American Cancer Society's Colleges Against Cancer.
