*GSC Travel Grant Application*
GSC Travel Grant is designed to support the conference-related travel
expenses of MIT graduate students in all Schools throughout the
Institute. Specifically, this fund is allocated to conference travel
expenses that are not currently funded by the student's advisor or
other MIT-related funding. The fund provides grant money for most
conference-related expenses including lodging.
The deadline has been extended to October 10th.

*Companies Recruiting MIT Students with Disabilities*
Merrill Lynch, PepsiCo, Goldman Sachs and Google are recruiting
Massachusetts Institute of Technology undergraduate, graduate and
doctoral students with disabilities for a broad range of 2009 summer
internships and full time positions. Hosted by New York-based not for
profit Lime Connect (Lime) for their corporate partners, the events
will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at The Hyatt Regency Boston
(One Avenue de Lafayette - at the Red Line Downtown Crossing stop, and
one block from the Red and Green Lines Park Street stop)
from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. (Registration begins at 5:30 pm.)

*IDEAS09 Generator Dinner*
This Wednesday the MIT Public Service Center, Edgerton Center and the
International Development Initiative kick off the 2008-2009 IDEAS
Competition with the Fall Generator Dinner.
What: IDEAS09 Generator Dinner
When: October 8, 7:30pm
Where: Morss Hall - Walker Memorial (Bldg 50)

The Generator Dinner is a relaxed, informal opportunity to learn
about the IDEAS Competition, meet fellow students and potential
collaborators, share your skills and project ideas, and find or
create a team to enter the 2008-2009 competition.
The IDEAS Competition invites project proposals that address
community development challenges at home and abroad in 8 categories:
Health & Medical; Energy; the Environment; Communication & Education;
Water, Sanitation, and Disaster Relief; Finance & Entrepreneurship; a
"Wild Card" category (student driven interest); and the Muhammad
Yunus Challenge to Alleviate Poverty.
Food of a Southwestern flavor and drinks will be served.

*Cope (Creating Opportunities for Personal Effectiveness)
for Graduate Students*
This is an 8-week co-ed group for graduate students focused on learning
and practicing skills that increase effective management of life issues.
A variety of strategies will be presented, discussed and practiced.
The format is lecture and discussion with practice assignments
that will be reviewed weekly.
The goals of the group:
* Increasing awareness of thoughts, feelings and behaviors
* Learning to tolerate and manage emotions effectively
* Improving self-acceptance/self-respect
* Replacing ineffective, maladaptive, or non-skilled
behaviors with skillful responses
Meeting time: Tuesdays 3:30-5

*Path of Professorship Workshop @ MIT*
October 17-18, 2008 at MIT Faculty Club
This workshop is for graduate and postdoctoral women at MIT who are
considering a tenure-track position in the fields of science,
engineering, and technology. The 1.3-day workshop focuses on skills,
strategies and "insider information" necessary to obtain a tenure-
track position, to succeed in one, and advance to other positions of
leadership. This is also an opportunity to network and meet peers.
