*Graduate Ring Premiere*
Attend the free premiere of the latest graduate ring design on
October 1 from 7 to 10pm in Walker! Enjoy food and beverages,

*Graduate Student Life Grants proposals are now being accepted!
Do you have an idea for a way to help enhance the graduate student
community?
The Grants are provided by the Dean for Graduate Education to help
fund creative community-building ideas. Ideas can be focused within
a discipline or span several departments/groups/residences.
Grant proposals may be submitted by grad or undergrad students,
faculty, administrators, alumni, departments, or other groups
interested in fomenting grad student community.
The deadline for submitting proposals is
5:00PM on Friday, October 17th, 2008.

*Public Service Center Fellowships*
The Public Service Center is offering funded Fellowship opportunities
to MIT students for IAP or the fall semester!
If you are an MIT student, you can work on a project by yourself or
as part of a small group. You can create your own project or apply
for one of the projects advertised on our website. All Fellows work
on projects that bring sustainable benefits to communities around
the world.

Current advertised opportunities include:
* Create a school astronomy program for First Philadelphia school, PA
* Help the environmental lab at Oglala Lakota College become
state-certified for water quality analysis

Applications for IAP Fellowships are due at noon on October 17.
Applications for fall Fellowships are accepted on a rolling basis

Two Interviewing Workshops

Thursday Oct 2nd from 1:00-2:30 PM in Rm. 4-145
Topics will include Interviewing from the Hiring Managers Perspective.
Knowing what the Hiring Manager is thinking will help you be more
effective during the interviewing process. Plus other great tips
and strategies will be discussed.

Announcing Progress through Innovation, the inaugural conference
organized by the Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship
at MIT, taking place on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 in Cambridge, MA.
The conference, which will focus on international development and
entrepreneurship, will feature an unprecedented panel of 4 Nobel
Laureates in Economics, entrepreneurs from Afghanistan, Kenya and
India, and a luncheon session with guest speaker, Ben Cohen,
co-founder of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream. The day's proceedings will
be moderated by BBC World News Presenter Nisha Pillai.

Go on a FREE TRIP during one week of IAP!
JOIN MIT WOMEN'S INITIATIVE!
The MIT Women's Initiative is a group that sends pairs of female
engineers (both graduate and undergraduate) from MIT to middle and
high schools around the country for a week during IAP. They give
presentations about opportunities in engineering and encourage high
school girls to remain interested in math and science. Previous
presenters have been to Washington, Hawaii., Miami, Alaska, San
Francisco, and beyond.
