Abstract:

The need for rational energy policy aimed at reducing oil use and 
greenhouse gas emissions has become increasingly urgent.  This talk 
will delve into why the car of the future is not a fuel cell vehicle 
and why the "fuel" of the future is electricity, not hydrogen.

Biography:

Dr. Joseph Romm has worked extensively on clean energy technologies, 
both in and out of the government.  He recently authored the report, 
"The Car and Fuel of the Future: A Technology and Policy Overview," 
for the National Commission on Energy Policy (July 2004) and "The 
Hype About Hydrogen: Fact and Fiction in the Race to Save the 
Climate," named one of the best science and technology books of 2004 
by "Library Journal."

Dr. Romm is executive director and founder of the Center for Energy 
and Climate Solutions-a one stop shop helping businesses and states 
adopt high-leverage strategies for saving energy and cutting 
pollution.  He served as Acting Assistant Secretary at the U.S. 
Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable 
Energy during 1997 and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary from 1995 
though 1998.  He holds B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics from M.I.T.
