[Editors] Advice on editorial careers

Hello Everyone,

I have a professional question for you: one of my colleagues has been
meeting with a soon-to-be PhD (materials science and engineering), who is
interested in doing editorial work. She says she has experience editing
other students' theses and has taken a copy editing class at the Cambridge
Adult Education Center. We actually get this type of question periodically
from other students as well.

Can you folks recommend good local options and opportunities for
students/grad students interested in editorial work? The challenge for
this woman is that she is apt to be moving away come June, perhaps to
Chicago, maybe to Europe. So a company that used freelancers would appeal
to her.

Thanks,
Marilyn
