[Dspace-general] Dublin core elements for physical description & format

Hi.

We have some items in our repository which merely describe items, where the
actual item is not available in a digital form (or unavailable to us to
upload for some reason). We want to add metadata which describes the
physical form (e.g. "Compact Disc") and the medium ("Sound recording"), but
we cannot use the format.medium or other format elements because they are
used by DSpace for the uploaded content, and therefore cannot be displayed
in the simple item view.

So. We'd be interested to know what others are doing to get around this
problem. Have you created additional metadata elements for this, or simply
used the unqualified "description" element?

Regards,

Steve
