Hi Steve,
first format.medium and format.extent are not used anymore to store
bitstream format and medium information as the metadata is at item level
not at bitstream level.
You may create your own metadata for this purpose, but be aware that the
metadata at the moment refers to the item not a single bitstream.
This, i.e. to assign metadata to different DSpace Objects, will be
addressed in the future. Furthermore there is some ongoing work on
automated format detection for preservative metadata extraction.
You may use the DCMI type vocabulary to describe the type of a ressource
(independent of physical form) or create your own type. The DCMI Type
vocabulary contains:
* Collection
* Dataset
* Event
* Image
* InteractiveResource
* MovingImage
* PhysicalObject
* Service
* Software
* Sound
* StillImage
* Text
sunny greetings
