Happy Monday, dorm resident! 🦈

Congratulations on nearly finishing another semester! In case you haven’t heard, we’re DormCon<https://dormcon.mit.edu/>, the student government organization that represents MIT’s undergraduate dorms. We wanted to reach out about the upcoming DormCon elections and dining forum, and remind you of resources available to you.

Feel free to reach out to us at dormcon-exec at mit.edu<mailto:dormcon-exec at mit.edu> with any questions or concerns about housing, dining, or anything else related to residential life! If you’re interested in finding out more about what we do, we look forward to seeing you at our next general body meeting on April 25, 7pm at New House.

DormCon Elections

Do you want to…
 …work on improving student life?

…be in the room where all the dorm life tea is spilled?

…join a student government that doesn’t take itself too seriously?

Then you should run for a 🦈DormCon🦈 exec position at the DormCon GBM on Thursday, May 9th at 7:00 pm in 1-190.

There are 9 positions being elected: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Housing Chairs, Dining Chairs, Underclassmen Representative, JudComm Chairs, and Tech Chair. You can find descriptions for the positions on this google doc<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XtOeweFvPNzsUNdYLU68xqGP9Vc0PjA5wNHCyuU9v_o/edit?usp=sharing>. In addition to being responsible for a specific area of focus, all members of DormCon Exec are involved in the discussions we have about student life issues, and give input on the policies we advocate for.

All non-graduating dorm residents are eligible to run for a position on DormCon Exec (no experience necessary)! Feel free to reach out to dormcon-exec at mit.edu<mailto:dormcon-exec at mit.edu> or any of the listed contacts for each position if you have any questions! Fill out this (non-binding) form<https://forms.gle/ReciPTPPkHkGdifd8> to indicate your interest in a position.

If you are unable to make it to the meeting, then you can send a proxy who will represent you as a candidate. The name of the proxy should be sent to us in advance of the meeting (you can reply to this email). Your proxy should be able to speak to your platform and provide brief answers to the following questions:

  *
What will be your workload over the next year?
  *
Can you make weekly Thursday night meetings?

Upcoming Dining Forum (with FREE BOBA!) and Green Box Survey

After a long period of suspense, the new grocer for the Student Center has finally been announced: say hello to Concord Market<https://www.concordmarketoncampus.com/>!

As with any major change, however, you may have a lot of questions–what kind of items will they have? What are the prices? Will they actually fulfill my needs for food on campus? And, hopefully… how can I get involved?

Get all of these questions (and more!) answered THIS WEDNESDAY at 7PM in Twenty Chimneys (W20-306) with the heads of MIT Dining and our very own DormCon Dining Chairs to answer your questions, show you cool pictures, and give you FREE BOBA!

Also, let us know: what is your ideal green box like? Answer this very quick survey<https://forms.gle/DrdCe4ubtnKnYBGv9> on what you look for in a green box! Changes to the program (both logistically, and the boxes themselves) are being discussed, and your feedback will help shape the future of the green box!

Finally, before the year ends, we wanted to remind you about available food resources<https://doingwell.mit.edu/foodandfinancial/>, specifically MIT’s SwipeShare program to ensure no student goes hungry or skips a meal. We want all students to feel comfortable asking for help<https://doingwell.mit.edu/support-3/> when necessary!

  1.
If you have remaining swipes to spare, please donate them to help students in need by completing this form<https://mycard.mit.edu/student/local_donate.php>.
  2.
If you need meal swipes, complete the Meal Request Form<https://studentlife.mit.edu/s3/money-food-resources/food-resources/meal-request-form> or talk to a Dean in S3.

Any questions/comments/concerns? Feel free to email us at dormcon-dining-chairs at mit.edu<mailto:dormcon-dining-chairs at mit.edu>, or fill out our feedback form: http://bit.ly/dining23, which also goes directly to MIT dining!

Final Announcements + Reminders

At a previous DormCon GBM, dorm presidents voted to raise the portion of dorm tax that you all are paying to DormCon from $5 to $10 per semester. This increase is the first in 22 years<https://web-cert.mit.edu/dormcon/minutes/2006-05-17.shtml>, and will allow DormCon to continue to fund awesome events that you all enjoy, provide dinner for all our meetings, and run initiatives to benefit dorm residents. Feel free to email dormcon-treasurer at mit.edu<mailto:dormcon-treasurer at mit.edu> if you have any questions or concerns about this change!

All dorm residents (that’s you!) are invited to attend our next General Body Meeting for the academic year on April 25th, 7:00-8:30 PM at New House, where you can also get free dinner! And of course, join us on May 9th, 7:00PM for elections at 1-190, and become a part of next year’s DormCon! Join the dormcon-announce mailing list<https://groups.mit.edu/webmoira/list/dormcon-announce> to receive agendas, updates, and reminders.

If you have any thoughts, opinions, or feedback after eating at a dining hall, remember to fill out the dining feedback form<http://bit.ly/dining23> so we can pass forward your suggestions! Finally, if you are struggling for any reason, don’t hesitate to reach out to your house team<https://mitguidetoresidences.mit.edu/teams>, S3<https://studentlife.mit.edu/s3>, or other resources<http://doingwell.mit.edu>, check out our food resources<https://linktr.ee/foodatmit>, and reach out to dormcon-exec at mit.edu<mailto:dormcon-exec at mit.edu> if you have concerns or questions!

Thanks for a great year! 🦈
