Hello dorm resident!

We hope you’ve been having a great first few weeks of the semester. We want to make sure you know all about 🦈 DormCon 🦈 and the resources we provide as your friendly neighborhood residence-based student government.

WHAT IS 🦈 DORMCON 🦈?

Dormitory Council, lovingly called 🦈 DormCon 🦈, is a student government that represents the 11 undergraduate residence halls at MIT, as well as undergrads who live in on-campus grad housing. We deal with issues pertaining to student life in dorms and we strive to elevate student concerns or ideas to administration. You may have seen us in action through CPW & REX, the Murals Pilots, and funding parties and other fun events such as DTYD and Bad Ideas Weekend! And importantly, DormCon is here to help you! We can assist with issues including, but not limited to:

  * Support for personal issues regarding housing and dining
  * Questions about the housing process
  * Relaying feedback regarding all things dorm-related, including housing, dining, REX, facilities, and more!
  * Event funding (e.g. campus-wide parties and formals, Next Haunt, Bad Ideas Weekend)
  * Advocacy for broader policy changes which benefit your community

You’re getting this email through dorms@, a mailing list for all dorm residents that only DormCon can use. We promise to keep this list low-traffic and focused on important updates — so please read our emails!

RESOURCES

Our resources include:

  * DormCon General Body Meetings (GBMs): The most direct way to stay updated on the latest DormCon issues (and give your feedback) is our biweekly general body meeting. DormCon GBMs are open to all dorm residents and happen on alternate Thursdays 7:30-9:00PM (see schedule below for dates and locations for the rest of the semester). These meetings are where residents propose policies and programs that affect and benefit the entire dormitory system. And you get free dinner!
  * Website: See our previous meeting minutes and other relevant information at dormcon.mit.edu<http://dormcon.mit.edu>!
  * Email: Feel free to send any questions to dormcon-exec at mit.edu<mailto:dormcon-exec at mit.edu> to reach all of DormCon exec, or go to this page<https://dormcon.mit.edu/about/officers> to find the email for the officer that can help with your specific issue.
  * Dormspam: If you’re not on a dormspam list already, go to join-dormspam.mit.edu<http://join-dormspam.mit.edu/> to learn more and add yourself to a list! This is a great way to stay connected to all campus events, not just DormCon!

Add yourself to the dormcon-announce at mit.edu<https://groups.mit.edu/webmoira/list/dormcon-announce> mailing list for agenda, details on location, reminders, and updates! If you’re not familiar with mailing lists, you can also email dormcon-secretary at mit.edu<mailto:dormcon-secretary at mit.edu> for help.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!!

One of DormCon’s biggest projects is working on making dining better. However, that requires YOU to submit your concerns, and what you want made better. Right now, there are two forms you can fill out:

  * Dining Feedback Form<https://forms.gle/oXVpueK3JHbBtNZZ8>: Did you eat at a dining hall, or retail location on campus (Bosworth’s cafe in Lobby 7, the Launchpad restaurants on Stud 2, etc) and like it? Or hate it? Was your dietary restriction not accommodated? Did they serve your favorite food, and you want to make sure they serve it again? Let the DormCon dining chairs know! Your feedback will be shared directly with representatives from MIT Dining, and will have an opportunity to make a big impact.
  * Stata Food Availability Form<https://forms.gle/rp3FutqY5eYNLA9t9>: Do you have thoughts about the Forbes Cafe in Stata? Do you think it should be open longer? Fill out this form! It will help shape how DormCon advocates around food offerings (in Stata and elsewhere!) in the future.

We hope you’ll take advantage of these resources and be engaged in dorm life conversations! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to dormcon-exec at mit.edu<mailto:dormcon-exec at mit.edu> if you have any questions, concerns, or comments.

With love from DormCon,
