COURSE ANNOUNCEMENT

Translational Gynecology (20.S900)

Contact Prof. Linda Griffith (griff at mit.edu<mailto:griff at mit.edu>) for more information and access to the class Stellar Site. Class starts week of Feb 11.

TechCrunch recently ranked companies in order of their fertility benefits:

Facebook, with $100,000, fell to 2nd, behind Spotify’s “unlimited”. Perversely, America’s investment in understanding common, debilitating gynecology diseases – much less diagnosing and treating them – is woefully thin. Pubmed cites over 23,000 papers on the topic of “erectile dysfunction”, a condition for which therapies are available….but just over 2,300 papers on adenomyosis, an underdiagnosed uterine disorder that is estimated to afflict 5-20% of women, causing them to miss work or school. What is MIT doing about this sad gap in women’s reproductive health? A lot! And you can contribute.

Learn how, in 20.S900, a seminar class that offers a spectrum of opportunities to learn and become involved depending on your level of interest: 1 hr lecture per week (time TBD) plus optional clinical interactions and mentored projects.
Speakers include scientists, gynecology surgeons, computer scientists, device engineers from industry, drug developers, and various MIT faculty and students

taking MIT technologies and machine learning into the clinic. Opportunities for pre-meds to shadow clinicians, and to interact with patients as they go through diagnosis and treatment. Very strong emphasis on the translation of basic science and engineering into clinical practice and patient treatment, from those in the trenches trying to make a difference.

Course starts February 11th
