Proposed Summer Energy UROP Project (deadline for direct MITEI funding is April 8th)
Biological approaches for improving CO2 capture, and production of algal fatty acids for biodiesel production

Overall Objective:
The project focuses on the study of the effect of nutrients and algae culture conditions (e.g., illumination profile) on CO2 capture and fatty acids production, and to examine biological routes (e.g., enzymatic) for improving fatty acids recovery and purification.

Proposed Summer Biotech UROP Project (deadline for direct UROP funding is April 14th)
Production of isotopically-enriched serum albumin for biomedical research using Pichia
pastoris as a biosynthetic host

Overall Objective:
The project focuses on the development and optimization of the substrate yield of a novel process
that uses [13C6]glucose and [15N2]ammonium sulfate to produce isotopically-labeled serum
albumin from the yeast Pichia pastoris, with robust and consistent quantity and enrichment for
biomedical research applications.
