Research Associate, Cell Biology
Syros Pharmaceuticals is seeking a cellular biologist to join a team of highly motivated scientists that are using recent fundamental insights into transcriptional regulation to discover novel small molecules for the treatment of cancer.
We are an innovative drug discovery company focused on discovering and developing medicines targeting gene control with a focus on the treatment of cancer and related conditions. Syros was founded in 2012 by leading scientists from the Whitehead Institute and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute with support from top venture firms and a world class Scientific Advisory Board. Combining new insights into enhancer function with information from genome-wide profiling, we are pursuing new targets and chemical approaches in an effort to unlock the process of gene control for drug discovery.
The candidate must have 2+ years of research experience in academia or industry in cell and molecular biology. Proficiency in in standard molecular biology practices including plasmid cloning and transfection, DNA and protein separation, immuno-blotting, RT-PCR, qPCR, and RNAi techniques is a plus.
Responsibilities:
* Performance of cellular assays in support of small molecule drug discovery efforts
* Experience in or interest in learning medium to high throughput assays and automation
* Simultaneous maintenance and expansion of multiple human cell lines
* RNA purification for expression studies
* Execution of overexpression and knockdown (shRNA/siRNA) experiments
* Performance of protein enrichment (IP) and ChIP-Seq experiments
* Interpretation of biological experiments and data visualization
Requirements:
* BA/BS degree in Cell Biology, molecular biology or related field Basic molecular biology skills: DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, molecular cloning, protein isolation and immune detection
* Experience with cell viability assays and cell imaging techniques
* Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks
* Desire and ability to work in a fast paced, cross-functional, flexible and team-oriented environment
* Strong interpersonal skills
* Strong verbal and written communications skills
Additional skills (optional yet preferred):
* 2+ years of experience in mammalian tissue culture
• Design, cloning, and mutation of protein expression constructs
• Familiarity with medium to high throughput biochemical and cellular assays
• Utilization of biophysical experimental methods including SPR, ITC, mass spectrometry, or similar methods
• Use of molecular modeling/visualization, protein homology/sequence analyses, or similar computational tools
Candidates who are keen experimentalists, enthusiastic team players that have a passion for drug discovery are encouraged to apply. Knowledge of cancer biology and transcriptional regulation is a plus.
