Project Title: Peptide as Biological Signaling molecules and Novel Drugs
Project Description: A UROP position is available in the lab of Prof. Graham C. Walker in the Department of Biology at MIT. Walker Lab has diverse research projects and candidates will have a chance to learn in multidisciplinary environment. The goal of the project is to understand the peptide signaling in biotic interactions. We are focusing on symbiosis between Sinorhizobium and Medicago interaction. The candidate will contribute on bacterial side of the interaction. Student will help in performing in-vitro biochemical assays, running PAGE and other gels, antimicrobial activities and generating mutant bacterial strains. The UROP will work closely with a senior biochemist in the laboratory.
Prerequisites: The successful candidate should be enrolled in a chemistry or biochemistry-related program at MIT, and should ideally have some experience with biochemistry. A minimum commitment of 10-12 hours per week spread over 3-4 days is required.
Contact: Please contact Dr. Mohammed Shabab (shabab at mit.edu<mailto:shabab at mit.edu>) for details.
