Come hear from three local global health professionals about how they became interested in the field of global health and how they have pursued global health initiatives through their careers thus far. Share your thoughts and ideas and learn how YOU can help contribute to and initiate global health efforts in the immediate and distant future!


PANEL WILL INCLUDE:

Dr. Thomas Burke
A practicing emergency physician, the founding Director of the Division of Global Health and Human Rights at MGH, and senior faculty member at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Burke served for seven years in the U.S. Army, helped establish a health system for 28,000 refugees in Guantanamo Bay Cuba and directed the emergency department in the U.S. Army's Landstuhl Regional Medical Center during the Bosnian crisis in 1995. Additionally, Dr Burke successfully started three companies and directed an NGO dedicated to developing medical education systems in Eastern Europe.

Dr. Candace Brown
A professor of International Health at Boston University's Center for Global Health and Development, Dr. Miler is an expert in issues of global health and social poverty, economic disparities and household poverty. Currently, Dr. Miller's work focuses on longitudinal evaluation studies to inform governments and international aid organization on how best to respond to families in poverty and affected by HIV/AIDS. Prior to coming to Boston, Dr. Miller served as the Principle Investigator on a variety of other health and economic research projects in Botswana, Malawi, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Anna Young
The Research and Developer Office for International Laboratories of Innovations in International Health at MIT, Ms. Young works to coordinate global health projects in Nicaragua, Ecuador and Ethiopia focusing on the development of strategies to propagate ideas along a path of need identification, research and development, field testing, user feedback and implementation. Additionally, Ms. Young runs the D-LAB Health class at MIT, is the co-founder of Salud del Sol, a social enterprise focusing on providing solar health technology to clinics in Nicaragua. Her solar autoclave research project was recently identified by the World Health Organization as one of the top six innovative technologies in health.
