Dear Biology Undergraduates,

We would like to invite you to attend this year's 
Howard Hughes Memorial Institute Lecture on 
Tuesday, March 7 at 4:00pm in 32-123.  This is 
the flagship event of the Biology Undergraduate 
student Association and we are proud to host Dr. 
Jeannie Lee of Harvard Medical School as she 
presents:

"Beyond Sex: X Chromosome Inactivation"
X and Y chromosomes make us male and female.  But 
they have to do more than specify sex.  In fact, 
one of the two female X chromosomes is shut off 
during female development to balance gene dosage 
between the sexes and allow for normal 
development.

Dr. Lee is an investigator of the HHMI.  She is 
also Professor of Genetics (and Pathology) at 
Harvard Medical School and Molecular Biologist at 
the Massachusetts General Hospital.  She received 
the A.B. degree at Harvard University where she 
trained with Nancy Kleckner and the M.D.-Ph.D 
degrees from the University of Pennsylvania 
School of Medicine where she worked with Robert 
Nussbaum.   She assumed her present post in 1997.
