IAP Midway Wrap-Up

We want to thank every single group who took the time to send representatives to the Midway today. This was the first time we have tried an IAP Midway, and we didn’t know what the turnout of students would look like, particularly when Zoom fatigue is so pervasive these days.

We publicized the event heavily to freshmen with the help of the Office of the First Year, but we understand that some groups were disappointed with the turnout to this event. However, we heard directly from freshmen that did attend that this event was what they were looking for before coming to campus and that they were excited about finding groups to be a part of, which is exactly what we were hoping to achieve with this Midway. Getting high attendance to any event these days is difficult with the inundation of Zoom links that so many students face, and we appreciate and respect your time and are grateful for those of you who you took part in this event that helped many students find connections to campus that they did not have before.

Thank you for sticking with us as we figured out the new format with the Zoom breakout rooms as well, which we heard were much easier to navigate for participants. We’re thinking carefully about how to handle this format in the future, as this time around it resulted in being very inflexible with late applications, which we can usually be more lenient with. All of this is helping us learn how to better promote and execute the next Midway, which will take place during CPW.

Thank you once again for your time and contribution to connecting students to student life at MIT!

Application for LEF/ARCADE Funds

If your group would like to hold a virtual event in the coming months that you believe satisfies the requirements for events that would normally be covered by the grants for on-campus events (http://asa.mit.edu/group-resources/funding-large-events), please fill out the application at: https://engage.mit.edu/submitter/form/start/465604. If you have any questions, please reach out to <asa-treasurer at mit.edu<mailto:asa-treasurer at mit.edu>> and we can discuss. We are happy to work with groups to fund their ideas for virtual events to support any way our campus can stay connected or groups can adapt to a virtual environment!

We're combining the Winter and Spring cycles, so we'll evaluate the Winter cycle applications on a rolling basis, but the last applications for this semester will occur with a deadline of March 1, and a late deadline of March 8.

------------------------------------------------------------

We hope you are all doing well and staying safe; as always, please feel free to email <asa-exec at mit.edu> with any requests, questions, or other inquiries.

Sincerely,

The ASA Executive Board
