ASA Operating Guidelines will change Feb. 3, 2020

After nearly a year and a half of development, the ASA Executive Board has voted to approve changes to the ASA Operating Guidelines, with approval from the GSC and UA. You can find the changes to the Guidelines notated in detail here: <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Xd0yfQpr7_7wPGuPq1EzGtjT-43EzFaMHrrdKtAXZKw/edit?usp=sharing> Thank you to all the groups and student representatives who provided fantastic feedback throughout the process! No major changes have been made since then, simply minor tweaks to some wording and expanding who can technically be a member of a student group, as well as relaxing what group roles can only be performed by students as recommended at the fall GBM.

Changes will go into effect with the start of the new semester on February 3rd, 2020. Make sure that you familiarize yourself with the new requirements and suggestions relating to group membership, particularly who can serve in officer roles, and don't hesitate to contact the Board with any questions.

New Group Applications for Spring 2020 are OPEN!

If you are interested in starting a new group, the ASA is currently accepting applications to be reviewed at the start of the new semester. The deadline for submission is February 28th, 2020 at 11:59 PM. The application can be found here: <https://asa.mit.edu/start-group/new-group-application>.

Please note that applications will not begin to be reviewed until a week or two into the semester, so there is no rush to get an application in! If you have any questions about the group you would like to start or the application process, make sure that you have read all of the information on the group application process (http://asa.mit.edu/start-group), guidelines on what privileges ASA groups receive (https://asa.mit.edu/group-privileges), and then email asa-groups at mit.edu with any further questions.
