Dear Student Group Officers,

Please take note of the following announcements:

(1) LEF/ARCADE Deadline Thursday, February 28, 2013
(2) SAO Student Group Financial Trainings
(3) Board Allocations Released
(4) Space Reminder
(5) New SAO Blog

---------------------------------

(1) LEF/ARCADE Deadline Thursday, February 28, 2013

The deadline to submit applications to the Large Event Fund (LEF) and
the Assisting Recurring Cultural And Diversity Events (ARCADE) fund is
Thursday, February 28 at 11:59 pm. This deadline is for events
occurring between April 1, 2013 and June 30, 2013. The application and
more information about the funds are available online:

You are encouraged to meet with someone from the Student Activities
Office to discuss your application, particularly if it is for a new
event or you are making substantial changes to your event. You MUST
meet with the Student Activities Office to discuss an event if it will
involve paying a speaker or performer. You can contact Alana Hamlett,
<ahamlett at mit.edu>, and Joel Pettigrew, <joelp at mit.edu>, about
scheduling an appointment.

You are also strongly encouraged to meet with the LEF/ARCADE board
members before submitting your application by scheduling an
appointment with us (contact the ASA Treasurer,
<asa-treasurer at mit.edu>) or by visiting our office hours. Please
check our online calendar,
<http://web.mit.edu/asa/about/office-hours.html>, for LEF/ARCADE
office hours, as well as general ASA office hours.

---------------------------------

(2) SAO Student Group Financial Trainings

Tomorrow and next Wednesday and Thursday, the Student Activities
Office will be providing financial trainings for signatories of
student groups. As the financial processes at MIT can be complicated,
it is essential that at least one representative (e.g., your
Treasurer) be knowledgeable of this process. Therefore, we STRONGLY
RECOMMEND attendance at one of the upcoming financial training
sessions.

Furthermore, the UA and GSC funding boards require that groups
applying to them have a President or Treasurer who has attended an SAO
Financial Signatory Training. If you have questions about this
requirement, please contact the relevant funding boards at
<finboard at mit.edu> (UA Finboard) or <gsc-treasurer at mit.edu> (GSC
Funding Board).

The trainings are from 6-7pm on February 14, 20, and 21, 2013 in
3-133. Please visit the SAO website
<http://studentlife.mit.edu/sao/finance/training> for additional
information or contact Colin Codner <cmcodner at mit.edu> in the Student
Activities Office.

---------------------------------

(3) Board Allocations Released

The bulletin board allocations for 2013-2014 have been released, and
all re-assigned spaces have now been cleared. All empty board spaces
have been labeled with the group now assigned to them; these groups
must fill their boards by February 15 at 11:59 pm or they may be fined
and/or lose their space.

You should ensure that your bulletin board (either new or continuing)
complies with all of the rules posted on our website at:

---------------------------------

(4) Space Reminder

Just as a reminder, groups in need of space that are currently lacking
space can sign up to be on the waitlist for an office or locker. Only
MIT-funded student groups are eligible for space. Email
asa-space at mit.edu to sign up for a waitlist or with questions.

(5) SAO Blog

Please take note of the following announcement from Joel Pettigrew in SAO:

The Student Activities Office has just started up a new blog,
<http://saoatmit.wordpress.com/>, meant to serve as a one-stop shop
for information relevant to and celebrating the student organization
community at MIT. We want this blog to serve as another opportunity
for studentorganizations to engage directly with our office.

Have an upcoming event that you would like to get some additional
press out about? Email Joel Pettigrew at <joelp at mit.edu> and have
your event featured on the blog. Want to write for the blog (you can
write about student organization issues, MIT news/happenings, or
things going down around Boston it's up to you!)? Email Joel and
we'll get you on board. Make sure to check out
<http://saoatmit.wordpress.com> for all the latest updates and info
from the SAO!

---------------------------------

Please feel free to email <asa-exec at mit.edu> with any requests,
questions, or other inquiries.

Sincerely,
The ASA Executive Board
