[Tango-A] SA: Workshop in Alexander Technique in BA with internationally-renowned instructor Bruce Fertman

Andres Amarilla and Meredith Klein are very pleased to present Bruce
Fertman, internationally-renowned teacher of Alexander Technique, for
a 12-hour workshop in Buenos Aires on November 25/26, 2006.  Because
Alexander practitioners have developed an extremely subtle
understanding of the way the body moves, the technique is very helpful
for tango dancers (indeed, for anyone who ever moves to do anything).

The workshop is by no means limited to tango dancers, but there will
be a lot of us there.

ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE

Developed in the 1890s by an Australian named F. M. Alexander, the
Alexander Technique is a method that teaches you how to convert
excessive tension into useful energy.  Simple and practical, the
technique helps improve balance, support and coordination, promoting
freedom and fluidity of movement.

The Alexander Technique can be applied to everyday activities such as
sitting, walking or speaking, as well as to specialized activities
such as playing the violin, dancing tango, or singing.  By teaching us
how to move in accordance with our natural design, the technique
fosters ease, flexibility, power and expressivity.

For over 100 years, the Alexander Technique has been helping
musicians, dancers, actors, and singers, (and people in many other
professions as well), to relieve tension and pain, avoid injury, and
gain greater functional and expressive power.

THE WORKSHOP

During the weekend of November 25/26, Bruce Fertman will offer a
12-hour introductory course in the Alexander Technique.  The workshop
is open to dancers, musicians, actors, artists, bodyworkers, and
anyone else who wants to improve the way they do what they do.
Participants are asked to bring their instruments, dance shoes, or
anything else they need in order that Bruce can work with you on the
activity of your choice.

BRUCE FERTMAN

Founding Director and Senior Teacher for the Alexander Alliance
(http://www.alexanderalliance.com) since 1982, Bruce Fertman has
taught annually for the past 20 years throughout Europe, Asia and
North America.  Bruce embodies 45 years of dedicated study in an array
of movement disciplines.  Beginning as a professional gymnast, he then
worked for 12 years as a modern dancer, versed in the work of Limon,
Wigman, Hawkins, Cunningham, and Contact Improvisation.

A student of the Alexander Technique for 36 years, Bruce has been
privileged to study with five 1st generation Alexander teachers. His
mentor, Marjorie L. Barstow, was the first person formally certified
by F.M. Alexander to teach the Alexander Technique.  He apprenticed
with Marjorie Barstow intensively for fifteen years.  Bruce was one of
the twelve 2nd generation Alexander Teachers selected worldwide to
teach at the 3rd International Congress for Alexander Technique
Teachers in Switzerland.  As a performance coach specializing in
injury prevention, he has worked with members of the Berlin
Philharmonic, Radio France, and the National Symphony Orchestra.  He
has also taught for numerous university dance
programs and dance companies throughout Europe and the US.
