General Announcements + Opportunities

WGS International Women’s Day Event: Abortion Legislation and Practice in an International Perspective

When: Wednesday, March 8, 4.30-6.30 pm

Where: 2-105

Event info: Link<http://wgs.mit.edu/events-all/viterna-senderowicz>

Join WGS for this year’s International Women’s Day, where we will focus on the state of abortion, reproductive injustice, family planning, state coercion, and so much more in a global context. The event will end with a discussion open to all, so we hope you bring your questions and curiosities with you.

Dr. Leigh Senderowicz is a public health researcher and social demographer focusing on global sexual and reproductive health and rights, race, gender, and coloniality. Her mixed-methods research focuses on reproductive autonomy, exploring the ways that new approaches to measurement and evaluation can promote person-centered care, health equity and reproductive freedom.

Jocelyn Viterna is Professor of Sociology and Director of Undergraduate Studies at Harvard University. Her current research examines how the passage of anti-abortion legislation in El Salvador has transformed the Salvadoran legal, judicial, and medical systems, with powerful and negative consequences for the health and freedom of pregnant people living there.

Please arrive early as food and seating are limited. All are welcome.
