gwaMIT Special Announcement: RSVP for NE GWiSE Spring Summit – hybrid event on Saturday!

NE GWiSE Spring Summit: Building a career path in STEM: Following your passions inside and outside of the lab

  *   When: March 19th, 2022 9:30AM – 4:30PM ET
  *   Where: Northeastern University Curry Student Center (360 Huntington Ave Boston, MA 02115) and on zoom
  *   Details: Join us for an exciting line-up of speakers, workshops, a panel, and networking across universities in the Boston area. Learn about different career paths in STEM after graduate school and gain some skills to prepare for your next step. Light breakfast, lunch, snacks, and coffee will be served throughout the event for in person attendees. For virtual attendees, the keynote and panel will be webinar-style while the workshops will be set up as zoom meetings to allow for active participation.

Keynote: Dr. Marinna Madrid, PhD, Co-founder at Cellino - a venture capital-backed early-stage biotech company. She received her PhD and MA in Applied Physics at Harvard University. She is the recipient of the Harvard Graduate Prize Fellowship, the Catalyst Accelerator Grant from Harvard Medical School, and is on the Forbes 30 Under 30 2019 list for Healthcare.
Panelists:

  *   Dr. Allena Goren DePaoli, recent MIT Chemistry PhD!, Project Leader, The Boston Consulting Group (BCG)
  *   Dr. Cinda P. Scott, PhD, Center Director for the School for Field Studies, Center for Tropical Island Biodiversity Studies program in Panama. She is a marine biologist, educator, ocean equity advocate, science communicator and world traveler.
  *   Dr. Haley Hazlett, PhD, Program Manager, DORA (Declaration on Research Assessment) – a worldwide initiative to advance practical and robust approaches to responsible research assessment. She received her PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from Dartmouth College.
Workshop leaders (science communication, networking, activist scholarship, and working in public policy):

  *   Rosalind Reid, Executive Director for the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing and an Associate at the Institute for Quantitative Social Science and Institute for Applied Computational Science at Harvard University. A journalist and editor, she was editor-in-chief of American Scientist magazine for 16 years.
  *   Dr. Azza Gadir, PhD, Portfolio Manager at Orionis Biosciences. She is a molecular immunologist specialized in autoimmunity, allergies, and the microbiome. Azza completed her postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School (Boston Childrens’ Hospital).
  *   Dr. Eric Robsky Huntley, PhD, Lecturer, MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning. They are a principal investigator with the Data + Feminism Lab. They are also currently a Visiting Lecturer in Landscape Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. They hold a PhD in Geography from the University of Kentucky.


  *   Dr. Kimberlee Eberle-Sudré, PhD, Program Director for Education and the Development of Knowledge, American Academy of Arts & Sciences. Before joining the Academy, Kimberlee worked at the Association of American Universities (AAU), where she led their research portfolio on racial and gender equity in higher education, as well as federal policy efforts.
  *   Sarah M. Rovito, PE, Senior Program Officer focusing on U.S. Science and Innovation Policy at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.​ She previously ran her own consulting firm providing science, technology, and innovation policy services; served as a 2019-2020 IEEE-USA Congressional Fellow in the U.S. House of Representatives; and served as the Director of Science & Research Policy at the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities.
