  *   Co-Chairs: Conference Co-Chairs lead the committee members, set the conference theme, and oversee all general planning of the conference
  *   Event Leads: each conference has 4-5 Event Leads who each spearhead a single event (either an invited speaker, a panel, a workshop, etc.)
  *   Committee Members: attend regular meetings, contribute to theme brainstorming, logistics, publicity, and volunteer during events

Attend the NE GWiSE Spring Summit
When: March 19th, 2022 9:30AM – 4:30PM EST
Where: Northeastern University Curry Student Center (360 Huntington Ave Boston, MA 02115) and on zoom
Details: Join us for an exciting line-up of speakers, workshops, a panel, and networking. Learn about different career paths in STEM after graduate school and gain some skills to prepare for your next step. Light breakfast, lunch, snacks, and coffee will be served throughout the event for in person attendees. For virtual attendees, the keynote and panel will be webinar-style while the workshops will be set up as zoom meetings to allow for active participation.

Keynote: Dr. Marinna Madrid, PhD, Co-founder at Cellino - a venture capital-backed early-stage biotech company. She received her PhD and MA in Applied Physics at Harvard University. She is the recipient of the Harvard Graduate Prize Fellowship, the Catalyst Accelerator Grant from Harvard Medical School, and is on the Forbes 30 Under 30 2019 list for Healthcare.

Panelists:

  *   Dr. Cinda P. Scott, PhD, Center Director for the School for Field Studies, Center for Tropical Island Biodiversity Studies program in Panama. She is a marine biologist, educator, ocean equity advocate, science communicator and world traveler.
  *   Dr. Haley Hazlett, PhD, Program Manager, DORA (Declaration on Research Assessment) – a worldwide initiative to advance practical and robust approaches to responsible research assessment. She received her PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from Dartmouth College.

Workshop leaders:

  *   Rosalind Reid, Executive Director for the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing and an Associate at the Institute for Quantitative Social Science and Institute for Applied Computational Science at Harvard University. A journalist and editor, she was editor-in-chief of American Scientist magazine for 16 years.
  *   Dr. Azza Gadir, PhD, Portfolio Manager at Orionis Biosciences. She is a molecular immunologist specialized in autoimmunity, allergies, and the microbiome. Azza completed her postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School (Boston Childrens’ Hospital).
  *   Dr. Eric Robsky Huntley, PhD, Lecturer, MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning. They are a principal investigator with the Data + Feminism Lab. They are also currently a Visiting Lecturer in Landscape Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. They hold a PhD in Geography from the University of Kentucky.

The MIT Center for Microbiome Informatics and Therapeutics and the MIT Microbiome Club are proud to invite you to participate in our annual MIT Microbiome Symposium to be held on Friday, April 29, 2022 from 10 am-5 pm at the MIT Media Lab (E15). Abstract submission is officially open!

  1.  Apply to be an ACLS Leading Edge Fellow
In Spring 2022, ACLS will place 20 PhDs as Leading Edge Fellows, to join social justice organizations for two-year fellowships. This year, our host organizations include the Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta, Restore Justice, Operation Shoestring and more.
Fellows receive stipends of $62,500 in the first year, $65,000 in the second, plus health insurance, and professional development funding. Fellowships begin in September 2022, and there are some fully remote opportunities available. The application consists of a résumé, cover letter, professional references, and an application questionnaire. (No reference letters are required.)
Applicants must have a PhD in the humanities or humanistic social sciences conferred between September 1, 2017, and September 1, 2022. Applicants must be authorized to work legally in the United States. Applications will be accepted only through the ACLS online application system and must be submitted by March 28, 2022 at 9pm EST. Applicants should not contact any of the organizations directly.   1.  Attend the Society of Health Policy Young Professionals’ SDOH Summit
Join the Society of Health Policy Young Professionals (SHPYP<http://dchealthpolicy.org/>) throughout the month of March 2022 as part of our “SDOH Summit: Evidence into Action.” Our “SDOH Summit” includes six events over the course of March, featuring virtual policy panels on key topics, a community service event, and an in-person networking event. The panels will explore how to catalyze knowledge and evidence on social determinants of health (SDOH) into action and policy. There will be no cost for event attendance and all sessions will be open to the public, members, and non-members alike.
Our Keynote Speaker is former HHS Secretary Donna Shalala, and our other events feature great speakers, such as Sarah Lichtman Spector, the CMS Director of Medicaid Eligibility Policy, Orriel Richardson of Morgan Health, and Dr. Rebekah Rollston from the Cambridge Health Alliance! In this two-part series of workshops, we will look at an overview of different project management practices that are used in the industry. This includes Waterfall, Agile (overall), Scrum, LEAN, Six Sigma, and Spiral. This is a good crash course for students that have little or no exposure to project management methodologies. It can also be a good overview for students that are already familiar with one or more methodologies and are curious about the other methodologies.
Workshop 1 will focus on Waterfall vs. Agile (overall), and Scrum. Sessions are independent and you do not need to attend both.

Taking charge of new roles after graduation

Are you prepared to hit-the-ground running after graduation? Learning how to “take charge” of new roles is an important leadership capability and this final workshop will help you build this skill. It is intended for graduating students but all are welcome.  We will be joined by four alumni of our program who will share experiences transitioning to their roles and also address your questions. These include:
