1. Judge Sign up with Scientista Foundation for the Scientista Intercollegiate Research Symposium

The Scientista Intercollegiate Research
Symposium is a one-day event that brings female graduate and undergraduate students together from across the country to listen to inspirational talks, including a keynote from science celebrity.

2. AeroAstro Centennial Seminar Series: General Janet Wolfenbarger
When: Wednesday, April 16th, 10am
Where: Stata Center, Room 32-123

The year 2014 marks 100 years of aerospace studies at the Institute, and the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics is celebrating through a Centennial Seminar Series.
The first speaker will be General Janet Wolfenbarger, a Course 16 alum and Commander of the Air Force Materiel Command. You can find her biography at http://1.usa.gov/1gsiXQl.

3. Cambridge Science Festival @MIT museum
When: April 19th-27th
Where: MIT museum

Throughout the Cambridge Science Festival, the MIT Museum in collaboration with the City of Cambridge, community organizations, schools, universities, and businesses hosts a range of performances, discussions, and workshops and activities.  Some of the events will focus on Space Day, Printing 3D Ships, and Science You Can Eat.

Admission throughout the festival is $10.00/adult and $5.00/youth, students, and seniors.

4. Violence Prevention & Response: listening sessions on sexual assault at MIT
When: Monday, May 19th, 12pm
Where: Flowers Dining Hall at Maseeh Hall

Chancellor Barnhart will be hosting a series of intimate listening sessions over lunch that will help the MIT community understand how sexual assault happens here and what we can do to respond to and prevent these instances. Information shared will help to shape the recommendations and policy regarding sexual assault in our community. All experiences and backgrounds are valuable in this conversation, and there will be emotional support from Violence Prevention & Response on hand for anyone who may need it. 5. [HGWISE] Longwood Coffee Hour with Dr. Cathy Wu
When: Thursday, March 27th, 4-5pm
Where: Ballard Room, 5th floor, Countway Library, Longwood Campus, Harvard

Please join us for a casual discussion of research, life, and anything else you may want to ask Dr. Wu! Coffee, hot apple cider, and pastries will be provided!

Dr. Cathy Wu is Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She received her MD from Stanford University School of Medicine in 1994. She completed postgraduate training in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, followed by a fellowship in medical oncology and hematology at Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare. In 2000, she joined Dana-Farber where her laboratory focuses on dissecting the underlying mechanisms of pathobiology of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). She has been the principal investigator of several center-initiated clinical trials. Other ongoing studies in her laboratory focus on systematic analyses to couple tumor genotype with phenotype, understanding CLL tumor heterogeneity, and mechanistic studies of novel CLL driver genes. In addition, Dr. Wu's husband Dr. Nir Hacohen is also a professor at Harvard Medical School with a laboratory at the MassachusettsG eneral Hospital and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Dr. Wu and Dr. Hacohen have 3 children.

6. [HWGISE] Whole Brain Living: An Experiential Workshop for the HGWISE Community
When: Sunday, March 30th, 2-5pm

The program will consist of experiential exercises, personal reflection, and group discussions designed to facilitate new perspectives on how we think and act, and will include aspects of improv/actor-training/professional coaching/mindfulness paradigms.

Facilitated by Tanya Smith, Associate Professor of Human Evolutionary Biology & Allison Ballou, Leadership Development Coach.

7. [HWGISE] Entrepreneurship Panel
When: Tuesday, April 1st, 5:30-7pm

Ever thought about working for a start up? Or founding a company of your own? At this careers panel, we will be joined by several talented scientists who have founded or are working at local start ups. The panel itself will last for forty five minutes, and afterwards we'll have the opportunity to chat with the panelists. The event will start at 5:30pm and end at 7pm and light snacks will be served.

The Buckminster Fuller Institute formally announces the Call for

Proposals to the 2014 Fuller Challenge. Recognized as "Socially-Responsible Design's Highest Award", the Challenge invites activists, architects, artists, designers, entrepreneurs, students and planners from all over the world to submit their innovative solutions to some of humanity's most pressing problems.

 A $100,000 prize is awarded to support the development and implementation of one outstanding strategy.

This half-day symposium and workshop is for graduate students developing a professional teaching profile in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and for faculty wishing to explore teaching and syllabus development strategies with colleagues.

Join us to: participate in discussions on how to incorporate Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies concepts and topics into your teaching from experienced and award-winning feminist faculty; Discuss the state of WGSS and explore critiques and reflections on university and feminist teaching; Engage with feminist theoretical perspectives on the practice and objectives of university teaching; Network with students and faculty in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from the Boston area.

The 2014 weSTEM conference will contain two keynote lectures, dual-track session talks, break-out discussion forums, and social networking sessions. The event is open to female graduate students around the country.

Financial support to attend weSTEM 2014 will be offered to up to 20 students. Funding decisions will be made based on the application for attendance, available at http://bit.ly/1fiMNGQ.

All students (undergraduate and graduate) in STEM programs are invited to apply.

11. [MASS AWIS] Alternative Careers in Science - Speed Networking Event
When: Tuesday, April 22nd, 6-9pm
Where: BU School of Medicine, Hiebert Lounge, 72 East Concord St, Boston

This event is for men and women within the scientific community (from undergrads to early career levels) who are interested in exploring diverse career options in science.

Participants will have the opportunity to interact with 10-15 experienced individuals who will give insight into their chosen professions. The event will be held in a speed-networking fashion with participants switching tables every 15 minutes for a total of 5 sessions. Please, note this is not a career fair.

The main career areas will be consulting, patent law, research & development, technology transfer, publishing/medical writing, academia, business development, competitive intelligence, teaching, medical science liaison, sales and human resources.

General Admission $30, MASS AWIS members $15.

12. Sense About Science – applications for Ask for Evidence Workshop
When: Wednesday, April 23rd, 5:30pm
Where: Emerson College, Boston

Do you think it is important for good science and evidence to be communicated to the public? What can be done to address scientific misconceptions and misinformation? Journalists and scientists will share insights on working with the media.We will share case studies and experiences of people Asking for Evidence behind claims in policy, media and advertising.

This free evening event runs from 5.30 to 7.30pm and includes pizza served in the break. It's open to everyone: the public, students, communicators, early career researchers, scientists, engineers and medics.
