Hello Riley,

We are using the Jabber protocol to introduce an instant messaging 
service at MIT.  In this pilot, we hope to test clients for the Mac, 
Windows and Unix/Linux.  There are a number of different IM services 
being used by the MIT community.  This pilot will give us an 
opportunity to see if we can introduce a service that is 
interoperable, uses the MIT name space and is secure.

I am not the technical lead, so someone may have a more technical 
response if this does not answer your question.
