Subject: Kerberos for Windows (KfW) 2.6.3 Release Announcement
Good Afternoon,
I am pleased to announce the release of Kerberos for Windows (KfW) 2.6.3. Kerberos for Windows is an integrated Kerberos release for the Microsoft Windows operating systems that includes the Kerberos v4 library, Kerberos v5 library version 1.3.3, Kerberos v5 GSS API library, Kerberos 524 library, KClient API library, Leash API library, Leash GUI credentials manager, kinit/klist/kdestroy/krb524init/aklog command-line credentials managers, and an in-memory credentials cache.
Notable Features of KfW 2.6.3:
------------------------------
-MIT customized installer
-Leash is now a system tray application
-Clients will now be prompted for tickets with all GSSAPI applications. So for example, when you launch SAPgui, if you do not have Kerberos tickets, the Kerberos logon will pop up instead of the error message indicating that you don't have tickets. This behavior also occurs within Eudora for SMTP Authentication and IMAP
-The Kerberos logon dialogs seen from Eudora (POP) and HostExplorer are the same as the standard logon dialog for Leash
For a complete list of new features, please reference the release notes for Kerberos for Windows 2.6.3, which are located at: http://web.mit.edu/kerberos/kfw-2.6/kfw-2.6.3/relnotes.html#whatsnew
Known Issues:
-------------
ISSUE:
If Leash isn't started before TechTime Calendar or Filezilla are launched, then users receive an error instead of a Kerberos login prompt.
RESOLUTION:
Start Leash before launching either of these programs. By default, Leash is configured to start on login. We recommend that users do not change this default configuration.
ISSUE:
Users may receive a "Ticket initialization failed" error (error 57) for a variety of reasons.
RESOLUTION:
Please review the following stock answer for the various causes and solutions to this error: http://itinfo.mit.edu/answer?id=7138
ISSUE:
Kerberos applications may not be able to obtain/use tickets immediately after installing Kerberos for Windows 2.6.3.
RESOLUTION:
After installing Kerberos for Windows 2.6.3, we recommend that you restart your machine so that all Kerberos applications can obtain/use Kerberos tickets properly. Once you restart your machine, all Kerberos applications will be able to obtain/use tickets properly.
