Hi,

It was great to see everyone who attended Eric Mattison's Wednesday presentation on The Internet of Things (IoT).

Eric took us on a journey which included the making of toast and eggs via IoT and APIs*, solar (freakin') roadways, the labor conditions behind the drop in IoT hardware prices, global supply chains (including playing the Price is Right with internationally-sourced Himalayan sea salt), electric skateboard hacking**, a tour of automated warehouses, potential social impacts of driverless vehicles***, and the coming ubiquity of IoT.

The slides for the presentation are available here: https://github.com/eric02138/iot_harvard

Note: Currently the slides require downloading some code and potentially installing software. We will attempt to have an easier to access version out soon.

Have a great weekend!

* verdict for initial attempt: eggs a bit overdone (no one ate them)

*** Bullish on the predicted positive effects of this change, including more car-sharing, at least one attendee is planning on destroying his driveway this weekend to make way for more garden space. On the flip side, the presentation asked, "what happens to all of the truck driver jobs?" http://www.npr.org/sections/money/2015/02/05/382664837/map-the-most-common-job-in-every-state
