Thanks Ed, this looks great.
I’d love to be as involved as I can in efforts to organize our web development practices. One thing that I’ve been doing in my spare time is building a kind of "MIT bootstrap," one part of which is a GitHub repository of Sass and CSS to generate brand guideline-adherent MIT branding for sites, including a CSS-based SVG MIT logo, as well as Sass variables for the various MIT branding colors, etc.
I think there are a number of things we could do to improve, coordinate, and standardize web development across the institute, and make it easier for web developers to share resources and re-use code whenever possible.
What specifically do you have in mind for this meeting? Some things I can think of on my wishlist for MIT web development
- Shared repositories on GitHub for most of the things below
- A coding style guide
- An "MIT Bootstrap"
- An MIT "CDN"? In how many places is a gif of the MIT logo hosted on our servers?
- A more active social community, on Yammer for instance, mailing list, blog, regular get-togethers, and knowledge-sharing presentations like mine on Sass
- Guides/presentations on development tools such as:
- Sass
- Git
- Grunt/Gulp
- Vim/Sublime/Atom
- etc.
Thanks so much for taking up this task; I think this kind of push is something that’s been sorely lacking at MIT.
Please let me know how I can get involved!
Best,
Jay

I go into more detail on the MIT Drupal Group website: http://drupalgroup.mit.edu/.

The distribution is geared primarily to MIT research centers, but the functionality is relevant to all web development at MIT.
