Hello MIT-Webpub,
As a reminder, tomorrow, December 9th, we are excited to have Matt Warren present us with An Introduction to MongoDB<http://w3.abcd.harvard.edu/ai1ec_event/intro-to-mongodb/>, a NoSQL database.
According to a recent survey MongoDB is now the 4th most popular database management system--and that ranking includes SQL databases such as Oracle and MySQL.
This talk will be especially interesting for those coming from a traditional SQL environment and newer MongoDB users.
Title: An Introduction to MongoDB<http://w3.abcd.harvard.edu/ai1ec_event/intro-to-mongodb/>
When: December 9th @ 3:30-5:00pm
Who: Matt Warren, Site Reliability Architect at Wanderu<https://www.wanderu.com> and organizer of the Boston MongoDB Meetup<http://www.meetup.com/Boston-MongoDB-User-Group/>
Where: Lamont Library, Forum Room
An Introduction to MongoDB
Drawing upon his professional experience at Wanderu as well as being an organizer of the Boston MongoDB Meetup, Matt will give an introductory talk on this rapidly growing noSQL database solution used by many major companies and favored by startups for its simple design and setup.
It's greatest advantage is the ability to use the unstructured data type, BSON, which allows developers to avoid writing, maintaining and upgrading schema. Unlike some SQL options, it has scaling and redundancy built-in and allows for quick ad-hoc querying of any data. This talk will go over the basics of data insertion/retrieval, compare querying between SQL and MongoDB, work through some advanced queries like map/reduce and aggregation, and look at the more sophisticated features from a 10,000-foot view.
