Hi Cheryl,
I would definitely recommend Tableau. Sloan Management Review is using Tableau Public for a couple data visualization projects. The learning curve isn't steep -- no programming skills required, easy to set up interactivity/dynamic filtering, styling options to fit your branding -- and it's easy to dive right in.
I haven't tested the Desktop or professional versions, but they do have educational pricing, and multi-license options for 50+ users. FYI: It's a Windows-only application, although they do have future plans to accommodate Macs.

Our department, CISR, is seeking recommendations for data visualization and analysis software. It need not be free; in fact, our need for it to be COUHES compliant (not share our data) would likely mean we’d have to pay for it. Sloan has a license for JMP, though it may not do everything we wish.
Criteria
–An easy-to-use (does not require coding skills), intuitive interface, the basics of which could be learned within a few hours
–Could export to various types of files and applications—web, with interactive functionality; image, to insert in PowerPoint and various types of documents; PDF; etc.
–Interactivity for the creator of a visualization, and for end-users accessing the product, such as on the web
–A flexible solution that offers many options of charts and graphics, which can be quickly accessed to better understand your data from varied analyses
–Easily changed and broad-ranging formatting options
–Allows integration with databases, and operates on the local machine
–Can combine multiple spreadsheets and visualizations into one presentation
–Supports various ways to work with data: filtering, sorting, grouping, etc.
–For integration into our website, it must NOT require a Flash interface
–I imagine we might need not to be limited by data file size
–One product (Tableau) describes publishing to iPad, a capability that could be useful in some applications we're discussing
I appreciate your sharing suggestions and experiences. Thank you!
