Penn State Demonstrates Its Award-Winning Closed Captioning Workflow
Thursday, October 6, 2011 1:00 PM - 2:00 pm EDT

In July, 2011, Penn State University together with 3Play Media won the Campus Technology Innovators Award for developing an open source system that dramatically simplifies the process of making media files accessible and copyright compliant. A push of a button lets instructors, professors, administrators, and students create WCAG compliant closed captions provided through an integration with 3Play Media.

In this webinar, Penn State University will discuss and demonstrate how the ELIMedia system works and how it has helped the campus to streamline transcription and captioning, copyright compliance, and media management in courses. We’ll talk about the benefits and reasons why the system was developed, as well as how it interfaces with other campus technologies. Finally, we’ll provide a link to download the source code and discuss upcoming features and the future direction of this project.

The webinar will cover:

•	Reasons for developing the ELIMedia system.
•	How the workflow helps with web accessibility compliance (WCAG) through video transcription and closed captioning.
•	How the workflow helps streamline copyright compliance and media management in courses.
•	Side benefits, including searchability and user engagement.
•	Demonstration of the system showing how media is uploaded, captioned, and embedded in a course.
•	Support for playlists and other types of media, including audio, images, flash, smart builder, and documents.
•	Ideas for new features and the future direction of the ELIMedia system.
•	How to download the source code.
