Dear MIT TechTV User,

MIT TechTV will be upgrading it's security and permissions system early in the morning of Wednesday July 6th. This will change your MIT TechTV experience. Please read below for more information.

How will this effect you?

You will now be required to login through MIT Touchstone using either your MIT Certificates, MIT Kerberos, or Touchstone Account.

Why is this being done?

You have spoken and we have listened.

This upgrade makes your login experience more streamlined. Once you have "linked" your current MIT TechTV account to your MIT Touchstone/Certificate/Kerberos information, your login method will be quick and easy and standard.

You don't have to remember usernames and passwords for each MIT TechTV account anymore, you can link them all together so you only have to sign in once to administer or view your videos.

Your videos will be safer. You will be able to set up "administrative" permissions as well as "user" (people to "look but not touch" your videos) quickly and easily through our integration with the MIT WebMoira system which many people are familiar with. For example: A professor can create a collection for their class that has two sections (A and B). They can go in and add their TAs to be "administrators" of their collection for these class sections. The TAs can then go in and add the class lists in WebMoira to be "users" (as well as upload, edit and generally set video preferences, etc.) so that the students in each section can "view only" the videos but everyone else in the world can't get to the videos.

What if I want to keep a video private but share it with someone that I don't want to have to go through the Touchstone signup process?

We are keeping our "private" feature so if you "protect" a collection, you can still opt to make a video "private" which will generate a passthrough link that you can send to people so they don't have to log in to see your video. Keep in mind that this isn't as secure as anyone who has that link can see the video until you disable the "private" function on your video (which you can do at will).

How do I get more information or help?

We will release the details on our MIT TechTV FAQ page (http://techtv.mit.edu/faq) before we update the site. Please check the FAQ first but as always, please feel free to contact us at techtv at mit.edu<mailto:techtv at mit.edu> with any questions, concerns, comments or suggestions.

Thanks and keep your great videos coming!

Sincerely, MIT TechTV
