Hi,

I'd like to add a few points in support of David's message:

-- I'm in the process of developing a website for Drupal users at MIT, to provide a support group and forum for all-things Drupal at MIT. I hope the site will also be used as a sandbox by other webmasters and developers at MIT to explore and experiment with new modules and tools as they are introduced to Drupal. I expect to have the website in reasonable shape by the end of the week.

-- As a Drupal learning environment, the Drupal stack install from Acquia is without question the strongest option for getting started. It puts everything you need -- Drupal, server, and database -- on your desktop or laptop, so that you're up and running with a full Drupal installation in a fraction of time that it would normally require. I am planning to arrange some classroom time so as to provide lessons to guide MIT newcomers through this setup, and will also post setup instructions online, answer questions, etc. But getting the site started now would really help newcomers optimize their time at DrupalTherapy.

-- MIT Libraries has a very strong collection of Drupal books online through its Books24x7 subscription. (Search Barton for "Drupal," then select any result that has an Online Ed. URL that will take you to the Books24x7 interface.) The most relevant book for newcomers is Using Drupal, which for some reason has recently disappeared from Barton. The book is available at the COOP, and I have a couple of copies if anyone would like to borrow one. Meanwhile, I'll try to find out what happened to the Barton listings.

-- As the webmaster for the Sustainability at MIT group, I host the monthly meetings of the Boston Drupal Group (generally first Tuesday of every month, E51-149, 6:30-8:30)-- the two hour meetings are great, but the three hours post-meeting at the Muddy are where the exciting conversations take place. This is a world-class group of Drupaleros.

Drupal is gradually taking over many sites at MIT, as it is in the online world generally. I am convinced Drupal is on its way to becoming a transformational tool. Right now it seems to be mostly used to build the sort of websites that have been around for years now, but it has revolutionary functionality waiting to be explored, largely in regard to the roles and permissions that can be deployed, and functionality that can be added to nurture new groups and communities. The release of Drupal 7 later this year is likely to take Drupal to a new level of popularity and adoption.

Anyway, plenty more to say, but for now I simply wanted to add to David's message by way of encouragement for Drupal and getting started with Drupal Therapy.

Regard,
Ed Carlevale
