SENIOR DESIGNER, Public Relations Services-News Office (temporary,  
part-time, 50%) to oversee the design and daily-changing images of the  
top-level MIT web site. Working closely with the managing editor, will  
coordinate home page design projects; supervise work of internal and  
external designers; and help to shape the public face of MIT through  
innovative, hands-on art direction. Working with the web and MIT News  
Office teams, will also introduce fresh, next-generation ideas,  
concepts, and approaches to daily spotlight images; brainstorm visual  
approaches for major MIT initiatives; and create a compelling  
representation of MIT through the use of illustration, photography,  
animation, and other graphic elements. Will also bridge the gap  
between design and development to create visually appealing and  
technically proficient sites that raise the bar for university web  
sites, and oversee the development of information architecture and  
user interfaces as needed.

REQUIREMENTS: five-plus years' experience in graphic and web design;  
exceptionally strong interactive design skills; experience mentoring  
and providing constructive critique to designers with a wide range of  
experience; demonstrated ability to visually represent abstract  
concepts; proficiency with creative tools such as Photoshop,  
Illustrator, and Flash; and strong working knowledge of HTML, DHTML,  
CSS, and JavaScript. Experience with video a plus. Knowledge of  
information architecture and wireframe creation needed, as is  
knowledge of or willingness to learn UNIX and XML. Seek a team player  
who is able to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment, while  
meeting deadlines. Excellent communication, organizational, and time
