Dear Students,
We hope you've all found your rhythm as the new academic year unfolds. Earlier this year, we emphasized the importance of recommitting to our cultural groups to support the rich backgrounds within our student body. After many conversations with students, admissions officers, and senior administration, one thing has become abundantly clear: we must do more to provide our cultural groups with the resources they need and deserve.
Cultural groups at MIT are essential, not only because of the vital roles they play across campus but also as the emotional backbone of our community. MIT is lucky to have such talented, passionate students. And without them, MIT simply wouldn’t be the same.
In light of this, we are pleased to announce a renewed commitment of substantial funding to support the operations and organization of cultural groups affected by recent affirmative action changes until a more permanent solution is identified.
In addition to these funds, we have finalized the process for allocating $50,000 for the participatory budgeting process. This will empower us as students to have a direct say in how these funds are used to enhance our campus, ensuring your voice actively shapes the community we share. This is a great first step, but that's exactly it: a first step.
In the same way that those in power must continuously earn the trust of those they serve, so must we. We are committed to working collaboratively with all parties involved until we've paved a way forward that is equitable, just, and worthy of your confidence.
Thank you for your trust and partnership. Let’s continue to dream big and achieve great things together.
Love you all,
