UA Faculty Dinners

TLDR: You can have dinner with a professor of your choice and the UA will reimburse $15 per person/$105 per group!

Hi Undergrads!
Would you like to know your professors better?

This semester, the UA Education Committee is bringing back our student-faculty meal reimbursements program. You and your friends can take a professor/lecturer to dinner and we will reimburse up to $15 per person with a maximum of $105 per group! Have one member of your group fill out this form<https://us16.mailchimp.com/mctx/clicks?url=https%3A%2F%2Fforms.gle%2Fv8aiFpHo8DEFfurh8&xid=45ee537a95&uid=81007902&iid=f4b7840713&pool=cts&v=2&c=1676326126&h=bed10a41e8c4e6cd46b7c019b224b77a2b612c8f28267baf82920e120b9f896f>. After confirming that the individual is valid, we will email you shortly with additional details. Fill out the form sooner than later! Reimbursements are limited and on a first come, first serve basis, with 1 reimbursement allowed per student per semester.

A new change for this semester: we are not providing reimbursements for TAs! Our budget ran out quickly last semester, so we decided to make this difficult decision to prioritize strengthening relationships between students and professors/lecturers.

You can reach us at ua-student-faculty-relations at mit.edu with additional questions.

UA W20 Town Hall
This Wednesday 7:30–8:30 PM, the UA is hosting a town hall in 4-231 to better understand students’ needs during the W20 (Student Center) closure.

Pizza will be provided, so make sure to bring your friends!

MIT Secular Society Film Screening
Amid protests and controversy, young-earth creationists build an enormous, $120 million “life-size” Noah’s Ark in rural Kentucky with the specific aim of proving that the Bible is scientifically and historically accurate. We Believe In Dinosaurs follows the building of the Ark from blueprints to Opening Day through the eyes of three Kentuckians: Doug, a gifted artist who creates lifelike animals for the Ark; Dan, a geologist and impassioned pro-science activist who blows the whistle on the Ark’s discriminatory hiring practices; and David, a young former creationist who mowed lawns to raise money for creationist causes in his youth. Shot over the course of four years, We Believe In Dinosaurs follows the Ark from blueprints to opening to aftermath and tells the story of the troubling relationship between science and religion in the United States. The Secular Society of MIT will be screening this film at our annual Darwin Day celebratory event this year, co-sponsored by the Greater Boston Humanists (http://bostonhumanists.org<https://us16.mailchimp.com/mctx/clicks?url=http%3A%2F%2Fbostonhumanists.org&xid=45ee537a95&uid=81007902&iid=f4b7840713&pool=cts&v=2&c=1676326126&h=3ee7dac326c22e764abcec81b89157c1c59ece8e3b044fb1173f09d9c5978ae5>).

SERC Future of Computing Prize
The Social and Ethical Responsibilities of Computing (SERC) within the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing, has launched a new prize competition for MIT students. In no more than 3,000 words, tell us how you think advances in computing will transform human society. The winning entry will be awarded a $10K prize. In addition, two runner-ups will be awarded $5K and ten honorable mentions will win $500 each. To help students prepare their entries ahead of the submission deadline (Feb. 28), we're hosting a series of workshops during IAP, 1:1 meetings with SERC postdocs, and sponsoring up to 30 UROPs (up to $2K stipend) for undergraduates to develop and refine their ideas.
