Science Coalition Fund It Forward Student Video Challenge

Together with research universities across the country, The Science Coalition is working to spread the word to Congress about why science matters—and we need your help!

The Science Coalition recently launched its third-annual Fund It Forward Student Video Challenge<https://www.sciencecoalition.org/student-video-challenge-2020/>, which is a great opportunity for students to get involved in science advocacy and earn cash prizes! The challenge is open now until October 18. The power of a great story can change the world, and now more than ever, it’s important we share the value of science to advocate for increased federal funding for research.

Cash prizes from $500 to $1,000 will be awarded to the top three graduate and undergraduate student winners, with an additional opportunity for finalists to earn more through the People’s Choice Award.

You don’t have to be a scientist or engineer to enter—if you’re passionate about research, we want to hear from you.

Enter today! More details can be found on the website https://www.sciencecoalition.org/student-video-challenge-2021/

Questions can be directed to me or tsc at sciencecoalition.org<mailto:tsc at sciencecoalition.org>.

Research Participants Wanted

Are you East Asian American?
At least a second-year undergraduate student?

  * The researcher is seeking participants 18 years or older that identify as East Asian American with socialization and /or self-identified mental health challenges.
  * There will be two (2) interviews. A 90-minute interview and a follow-up 30/60-minute interview via Zoom or Google Meet.
  * Open to MIT undergraduate students that have completed at least one year at the institute.
  * A $50 dollar gift card will be provided to all research participants.

UA, GSC & MITVote: Local Elections Forum

Interested in learning more about how the upcoming Cambridge City Council and Boston elections affect issues you care about?

Planning on voting in the 2021 Cambridge or Boston elections?

MITvote, the UA, and the GSC will be hosting a Local Elections Forum this coming Monday (10/4) from 7 to 8:30 pm, in W20-307! The first half will consist of a panel discussion including a former Cambridge City Councillor who is an MIT alum, a local activist from MassVOTE, and staff from the MIT Office of Government and Community Relations.

The second half will consist of a Meet and Greet session with 10 candidates currently running in the 2021 Cambridge and Boston City Council elections! Topics that will be discussed at the forum include climate change, student engagement, and affordable housing. Check out the flyer below for more details! There will also be FREE FOOD!

Judicial Review Board Application

The Judicial Review Board (JudBoard) is looking for another member! JudBoard serves as the judicial branch of MIT’s Undergraduate Association. From this position, they provide advice on the meaning of UA Governing Documents and hear disputes between parties of the UA. In the past decade, this has involved determining what was required by the Election Code, evaluating the procedure for replacing the UA Vice President-elect, and other controversies surrounding the UA governing documents. Serving on JudBoard is an incredibly valuable experience for future jobs, and the UA could not function without it! The time commitment depends on when questions arise about governing documents or conflicts occur but these are usually minor. You can email eeguia at mit.edu<mailto:eeguia at mit.edu> with more questions, or apply here by next Friday, October 8th at 11:59 pm ET: https://mit.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4UCrkA8kJTOCoGW
