Hello Undergrads!
Just a reminder that representatives from the MIT Values Committee will be hosting a forum tonight in a little under an hour at 6PM ET on this Zoom<https://mit.zoom.us/j/99841681733> to source undergraduate input to create a Values Statement for MIT.
This is a unique opportunity to shape Institute decision-making for years to come. Even this past year, decisions such as who was able to come back to campus or our grading policy were all decisions determined in conjunction with MIT values. It’s about time that we set those MIT values definitively. Hope to see you there!
Best,
Yu Jing Chen
Vice President of the Undergraduate Association

Dear Undergrads,
I hope everyone is having a nice weekend! My name is Fiona Chen and I am the undergraduate student representative on MIT’s Values Statement Committee<https://valuescommittee.mit.edu/>. Our committee was charged in January of this year with crafting a values statement for MIT.
Although MIT has operated for over a century, it has never had a values statement. At other universities, a values statement often serves as a guide for navigating difficult decisions or shaping individuals’ behavior, as well as a tool for empowering community members to speak up against injustices. As a result, many MIT groups advocating for progressive changes, particularly surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion, such as the NASEM Working Groups<https://chancellor.mit.edu/response-to-report-of-national-academies-committee-on-women-in-science-engineering-and-medicine> that crafted recommendations on sexual harassment at MIT, have pushed strongly for the creation of a values statement.
The committee is currently collecting feedback on what different groups on campus would like to see within MIT’s values statement, and undergraduate students are an incredibly important group that we would like to hear from. This is an opportunity for you to give voice to what you care about most deeply, what you feel like makes MIT most unique, and what you feel like MIT as an institution should prioritize.
Thus, the committee will be hosting a forum for all undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdocs this Wednesday, April 28 from 6-7 PM ET. We would love to see many of you there. The Zoom link is here<https://mit.zoom.us/j/99841681733> and the full Zoom invite is at the bottom of this email. It would also be immensely helpful for planning purposes if you could RSVP here<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdH9anoQli3VZmsiozKaSmWttiNQgZiNjA9o-InkSshGGuYxg/viewform?usp=sf_link>.
If you cannot make it to the forum, but you have input, we would still love to hear from you. Please feel free to email me at fionac at mit.edu<mailto:fionac at mit.edu> or fill out the anonymous feedback form on the Values Committee website here<https://valuescommittee.mit.edu/user?destination=/share-your-views>.

Thank you all so much!
All the best,
