Hi Undergrads,
Interested in making change at MIT? Consider joining an Institute Committee!
Institute Committees are committees of students, faculty, staff, and administrators that play central decision-making roles across a range of topic areas, including MIT grading policy; financial aid; diversity, equity, and inclusion; campus planning; and academic curricula. If you're interested in representing the study body through a seat at the table where you have equal voting power to MIT's senior officers, faculty, and administrators, apply here <https://mit.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cIn21u84BsSLgl8>! You can find more information at ua.mit.edu/institutecomms <http://ua.mit.edu/institutecomms>.
The Byte is a biweekly UA newsletter to inform undergraduates about what's happening in the MIT community.
The Byte is run by the UA which works to improve your undergraduate experience through policy, projects, and events. We're always happy to listen to your suggestions, concerns, and comments. Learn more at ua.mit.edu <http://ua.mit.edu/>.

The Caribbean nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has been left reeling from a series of volcanic eruptions that have severely disrupted the residents' lives, forcing some to leave their homes while also destroying their property.
The Caribbean Club is appealing to the MIT community for donations to aid with disaster relief. All donations will go to an organisation called Hairouna Hope, a non-profit organization based in St. Vincent and the Grenadines which provides assistance through medical missions and humanitarian service. It has been operational for the past few years but officially registered as a non-profit with Commerce and Intellectual Property Office since early 2021.
To make donations, please Venmo @Boston-for-SVG. Within the Venmo request, please indicate whether you would like your donation to be used as needed by the shelters or specify from the options: medical mission, medication, food, toiletries and/or clothes. If you have any questions, please contact Abigail Scott (abscott at mit.edu <mailto:abscott at mit.edu>).

Did the Old Testament Endorse Slavery? Was the "slavery" permitted and regulated by the Hebrew Bible really just debt/indentured servitude? What treatment of slaves was permitted or prohibited in Israelite religious law? Were slaves just property in that society? How did people end up in slavery to Israelites? Join us for the 7th subject of our "Course 0" discourse series, as Assyriologist Dr Joshua Bowen addresses common apologetic defenses of slavery in the Hebrew Bible. Talk followed by audience Q&A. Free and open to the public.

Get involved: tinyurl.com/banana-domination <http://www.tinyurl.com/banana-domination>
UA Innovation Committee (incomm) created Banana Lounge (26-110) for students, "a little happy place in the heart of campus." It was a space for many in the MIT community to meet, eat, work, nap, create, and play.
We know that you may miss Banana Lounge, and we're working hard on getting Banana Lounge restarted in the fall! In the meantime, we are exploring if we could safely bring back a taste of the old banana lounge (banana-flavored?) with COVID-safe space(s).
How can we do this? What would you like to see? Let us know with this survey <http://www.tinyurl.com/missing-bananas2021>!
Want to help us restart the OG Banana Lounge again come fall? Drop your name and kerb here <http://www.tinyurl.com/banana-domination>.
Questions? Comments? Concerns of banana domination? Contact us at bananalounge at mit.edu <mailto:bananalounge at mit.edu>
