Hi Undergrads,
Hope you are all taking care of yourselves! For those on campus, you may have noticed a change in COVID-19 testing at Johnson. A new testing process <https://mcusercontent.com/0cb9f68f0bc51d0385e5d8872/files/a8ba424a-a617-4199-9d64-576e724b4c20/HUCL_Pilot.pdf> was shared during an 8 am call <https://mit.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=88f983a0e3c2a43fb2a2eabd0&id=316f52fdbd&e=961485badd> with administrators, faculty, and students on Friday (4/9). This new process:
is more cost-effective & eco-friendly
has potential for fewer invalid results & quicker results
enables unobserved testing (if MIT goes that route)
If your would like to learn more, this new technology is similar to a 3D-printed swab developed at MIT and detailed in this MIT News Article <https://news.mit.edu/2021/opt-industries-swab-0408>. Reach out to the UA if you have any questions or thoughts about this new process!
The Byte is a biweekly UA newsletter to inform undergraduates about what's happening in the MIT community.
The Byte is run by the UA which works to improve your undergraduate experience through policy, projects, and events. We're always happy to listen to your suggestions, concerns, and comments. Learn more at ua.mit.edu <http://ua.mit.edu/>.

Get involved: tinyurl.com/banana-domination <http://www.tinyurl.com/banana-domination>
UA Innovation Committee (incomm) created Banana Lounge (26-110) for students, "a little happy place in the heart of campus." It was a space for many in the MIT community to meet, eat, work, nap, create, and play.
We know that you may miss Banana Lounge, and we're working hard on getting Banana Lounge restarted in the fall! In the meantime, we are exploring if we could safely bring back a taste of the old banana lounge (banana-flavored?) with COVID-safe space(s).
How can we do this? What would you like to see? Let us know with this survey <http://www.tinyurl.com/missing-bananas2021>!
Want to help us restart the OG Banana Lounge again come fall? Drop your name and kerb here <http://www.tinyurl.com/banana-domination>.

Apply to the Safe and Sustainable Labs Task Force
Apply: Applications due 4/14
Contact: ua-chief at mit.edu <mailto:ua-chief at mit.edu>
MIT is ramping up its efforts to improve on-campus climate action. A significant part of MIT's planning on how to make campus more sustainable is in targeting labs, which use the most energy as compared to other building types - MIT is spinning up a task force with people like Julie Newman and Krystyn van Vliet (associate provost) to lead the effort on making labs more sustainable.
If you're interested in being the representative on this task force, email ua-chief at mit.edu <mailto:ua-chief at mit.edu> responses to the following two questions by Wednesday, April 14th.
1) Why do you want to be a student representative on the the Safe and Sustainable Labs Task Force?
2) What ideas do you have to engage the student body in matters of Committees like this one and how do you plan to see them through?
