tl;dr: Apply to become a UA Officer! Please apply here<https://forms.gle/h2Q8CCdwm64jdTtv7> and sign-up<https://calendly.com/daniellegeathers/ua-officer-interview?month=2020-05&date=2020-05-04> for an interview by Wednesday, May 6th at noon ET.
Dear Undergraduates,
Yu Jing and I hope that you are safe and healthy. Please remember to prioritize your wellbeing and to support each other in this challenging time. We are incredibly grateful to be your 2020-2021 Undergraduate Association President and Vice President, and we are excited to begin building our officer team for the upcoming academic year! This high voter turnout--the highest in recent years--inspires us, and we are committed to keeping that momentum going.
The UA is MIT’s undergraduate student government. We are the front line for many of the issues facing students and serve as chief representatives of the student body to the administration. The Officer Team serves as the main advisors to the UA President and Vice President in these conversations. Setbacks due to COVID-19 have created a tight timeline to fill these positions and, as such, we will have a very quick turnaround.
Applications for the Officer Team will be due Wednesday, May 6th at noon ET. Note that interviews will begin on Monday, 5/4 and end on Wednesday, 5/6. Please make sure to submit your application<https://forms.gle/h2Q8CCdwm64jdTtv7> before your scheduled interview. Sign up for an interview here<https://calendly.com/daniellegeathers/ua-officer-interview?month=2020-05&date=2020-05-04> as soon as possible, if interested.
Our vision for MIT requires passionate leaders who are prepared to push the boundaries and challenge the status quo. In addition to specific responsibilities specified by the respective roles, each officer will contribute to greater policy initiatives defined by the Team. Being on the Officer Team provides the unique opportunity to improve MIT through collaboration with other students, administration, faculty, and staff. The role specifications are open-ended by design.
Officer responsibilities:
* Secretary supports the general operations of the organization, takes minutes at all meetings, and organizes the Byte.
* Treasurer oversees all budgeting and spending of the UA as well as examines MIT’s finances to ensure funds are allocated fairly and adequately.
* Chief of Staff supervises undergraduate representatives on all Institute committees, faculty committees, and ad-hoc committees throughout the year.
* Officer on Diversity leads diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to improve the environment of both the UA and MIT.
* Assistant Officer on Policy advises on long-term policy initiatives relevant to the student body.
For a more detailed outline of specific officer responsibilities, please refer to The Constitution<http://web.mit.edu/ua/governing-docs/constitution.pdf>. If you have any questions about any of the positions, please don’t hesitate to email us.
In addition to joining the UA Officer Team, UA committees are a great way for all students to get involved with UA initiatives. Be on the lookout for UA Committee applications in the Fall.
Best,
Danielle Geathers
