Dear Undergrads,
In response to recent comments of the UA President and Vice President
elections:
We strongly condemn both the reduction of Danielle and Yu Jing’s ticket to
only issues of diversity, and the implication that diversity, equity, and
justice are not critical issues. Danielle and Yu Jing’s work on these
topics is to be commended, not disparaged. Neither tickets’ platform can be
reduced to a single issue.
We are proud that both tickets are comprised of women of color. If Danielle
and Yu Jing are elected, the UA will have the first black woman president,
and if Fiona and Yara are elected, it will have the first Arab or female
Muslim vice president. All four student leaders are accomplished and
inspiring. Whoever wins, it will be on their merit and on the hard work
they have put in these past few years serving the community. Any
implication otherwise is antithetical to the values of MIT and the UA.
Please feel free to direct any concerns you might have about the election
to ua-judboard-chair at mit.edu and ua-elect at mit.edu.
Best,
Mahi Elango and Charlotte Minsky
UA President and Vice President
