Dear Undergrads,

Hope you're all well. A friendly reminder to submit your intent to run
forms for UA President/Vice President, Class Council, and ILG/Off-campus
rep on UA Council by the end of day this Friday.

The four undergraduate representatives on the Committee of the
Undergraduate Program (CUP
<https://registrar.mit.edu/faculty-curriculum-support/faculty-curriculum-committees/committee-undergraduate-program>)
want
your feedback on the new Flexible P/NR policy
<https://registrar.mit.edu/faculty-curriculum-support/faculty-curriculum-committees/committee-undergraduate-program/flexible>
proposed
by CUP (note: it is not related to the emergency alternative grading system
in place this semester). The proposal seeks to provide a safety net for
students who need it, ease the transition into MIT, and encourage
exploration.

If you have questions/comments please join our* Zoom meeting on April 17 at
6PM EDT* (details sent out soon). If you can't make it live, but want to
share feedback fill out this form
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScCB5DN-5rTYDsX9_64QeUISoiko9u8YIhY0AiaZ7mt7anqgg/viewform>.
Here
is more detailed info about the proposal
<https://registrar.mit.edu/faculty-curriculum-support/faculty-curriculum-committees/committee-undergraduate-program/flexible>
.

The proposal, if approved by the full faculty, would be implemented
starting with first-year students entering in Fall 2020. Under the Flex
P/NR proposal, first-year grading remains P/NR in the fall and ABC/NR in
the spring. Beginning in their second term, students would be allowed to
convert up to 48 units to P/NR after receiving their final grade. They can
use this option for any subject at any point during their undergraduate
study.

The CUP looks forward to hearing your feedback!

Warm Regards,
Mahi Elango
UA President
