Dear Undergraduates,
Now that elections have concluded, Kelvin II, the UA Vice-President Elect,
and I are thrilled to begin building our officer team for the 2019-2020
academic year! In order to implement the change we campaigned
<http://mahiandkelvin.com> on and advocate for students on all issues, we
need a highly passionate and qualified team. Serving as Secretary,
Treasurer, Chief of Staff, Assistant Officer on Diversity, or Assistant
Officer on Policy provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with
students, faculty, administrators, and staff to improve the undergraduate
experience at MIT. We hope to create a dedicated team that is
representative of our diverse student body, believes in administrative
transparency, and is passionate about student led change.
In addition to the following administrative tasks, all officers assist the
President and Vice President in policy work surrounding student issues,
take on projects and initiatives of their own choosing as we work toward
our shared vision, and meet regularly with senior administrators:
-
Secretary develops and maintains communication channels within the UA,
and with all undergraduates. The Secretary is responsible for collecting
and responding to student feedback, especially with our new goal to put
non-emergency initiatives in front of UA Council
<http://ua.mit.edu/uacouncil>. In addition, the Secretary supports the
general operations of the organization and takes minutes at all meetings.
-
Treasurer oversees all budgeting and spending of the UA and works to
ensure that the UA Finboard allocates funds fairly and effectively. The
Treasurer also works with other UA Officers and administrators to examine
MIT's finances, particularly student tuition and fees, and ensure that all
student groups are receiving adequate resources.
-
Chief of Staff appoints and checks in with undergraduate nominees to all
Institute committees, faculty committees, and ad-hoc committees throughout
the year.
-
Assistant Officer on Diversity creates new and improves ongoing
diversity and inclusion initiatives. The AoD also provides data-driven
recommendations to push MIT further towards a more welcoming and supportive
community.
-
Assistant Officer on Policy focuses on ideating and executing
high-impact, long-term policy initiatives on issues such as education,
housing, and dining.
If you are interested in becoming a UA Officer (Secretary, Treasurer, Chief
of Staff, Assistant Officer on Diversity, or Assistant Officer on Policy)
please apply here <https://forms.gle/QgZKw7P8hggh4ZK27> by 5pm on Saturday,
April 27th. Interviews will occur on April 28th.
If you’re interested in joining a particular committee of the UA
<http://ua.mit.edu/committees>, ranging from Education to Events to
Sustainability, keep an eye out for a separate application, to be released
in the coming weeks.
Warm regards,
Mahi
