Dear Undergrads,

Applications <https://forms.gle/X5eXoJUPbKYnTBg3A> for undergrad spots on
MIT’s Institute Committees are closing tomorrow at midnight! These
committees can really deepen your engagement with MIT while not requiring a
huge time commitment.

If MIT were the US, then the faculty would be Congress, and the Institute
Committees would be congressional subcommittees. They are charged with
making decisions about aspects of the MIT experience ranging from
facilities and buildings to student life and educational policy. As a
student representative, you would have the opportunity to be a full, voting
member of one of these committees. The fact that we get to do this is kind
of wild: other universities do not include students this way. However, MIT
including us is only half of the equation... we have to take this
opportunity to make our voices heard.

>From athletes to activists, from policy wonks to IS&T geeks, these
committees need a wide range of student talent to fill them, and everyone
should look through the application. Committee descriptions are included in
the application. Also, you probably do have time for the committees in your
schedule: while it varies between committees, most committees meet 1-2
hours every two weeks.

Apply here <https://forms.gle/X5eXoJUPbKYnTBg3A> by tomorrow at midnight. Some
committees that are in particular need of applications are* QLAB, the Queer
and LGBT Advisory Board* (@LBTQ+ people), the *Committee on Undergraduate
Admissions and Financial Aid *(@people who receive finaid, which is most
people) and the *Committee on Discipline *(@compassionate, fair-minded
people), the *Committee on Curricula *(@people who care about having
well-run classes) and the subcommittees of the Committee on the
Undergraduate Program (*Subcommittee on HASS Requirement, Subcommittee on
Communication Requirement) *(@everyone who takes a lot of
HASS/communication classes, AKA everyone). But please apply for everything
that interests you and that you think you would do well on!

Best,

MJ
