tl;dr:
Check your syllabus for violations! Report them at http://ua.mit.edu/policy/violations/ <http://ua.mit.edu/policy/violations/>
Tell us your thoughts on MIT’s grading system, and get Thai food! Room 4-253 from 6:30-7:30PM on Tuesday, December 11th.

Dear Undergrads,

Hope you are enjoying the end of your semester! The UA Education Committee has two updates for you all.

Grade Transparency
First off, we started working on grade transparency this semester, and we need your thoughts on this issue and the changes you would like to see implemented.

We will have an hour-long meeting to discuss the issues about the grading system and how it could be improved. We will meet from 6:30-7:30PM on Tuesday, December 11th in 4-253. There will be free Thai food!

Discussion topics include:
Where are the holes/issues in grading right now?
How informed were you about the grading system for each class?
What are your opinions on add/drop date?

If you are interested in attending or would like to share your thoughts, please fill out this 1-minute survey <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd_yJNDeXHjZScWAxnjm2Y3H1C-LJvC8Hsht-bDKsstC7NR6g/viewform> so we can know how much food to order. We hope you will come — we need student voices.

Academic Violations
Secondly, before finals begin, please take a moment to check your syllabi to resolve potential conflicts. Now that classes are winding down, it is important to confirm that your syllabi follow the following guidelines.

There are rules governing when and how tests and assignments are given near the end of the semester. Please check if your classes comply with MIT’s rules for end-of-term tests and assignments. Your professors might not be aware of these rules! You can find a summary of the rules at the end of this e-mail, but here are a few examples:

• No exams are allowed after December 7th.
• For classes with finals, no assignments can be due after December 7th.
• For classes without finals, one assignment can be due between December 7th and the last day of class.
• Take-home finals must be open-book and open-note.

If you think one of your classes is breaking a rule, there are several steps that you can take. If you are comfortable doing so, you can talk to the professor directly. You can also report the violation anonymously to the UA or to the Chair of the Faculty. Please reach out as soon as possible. Late in the semester, violations become increasingly difficult to resolve in a manner that is fair to everyone.

To report a violation to the UA, please visit http://ua.mit.edu/policy/violations/ <http://ua.mit.edu/policy/violations/>

To report a violation to the Chair of the Faculty, please email exam-termregs at mit.edu <https://owa.exchange.mit.edu/owa/redir.aspx?C=sXBzndcvxqyFsas39ODzA5SCbvMB29Pnt9HpHU3I-5Xik1ANWiLWCA..&URL=mailto%3aexam-termregs%40mit.edu>

If you have any questions, please email violations at mit.edu <https://owa.exchange.mit.edu/owa/redir.aspx?C=jz_MBUTJRuvdmkxbvjnx6qs5LrjWZWm5QufNIhB7_kPik1ANWiLWCA..&URL=mailto%3aviolations%40mit.edu>.

Thanks for taking the time to check your syllabi. Hopefully, we can help if there are any issues. Please see below for a summary of the violation rules for the undergraduate class.

Best,
UA Education
