Hi Undergrads,
Hope you're excited for the upcoming long weekend! The UA is hosting a
student-run forum on the first year experience at MIT this Thursday, Oct. 4
at 7pm in room 56-154. Your thoughts, questions, and comments shared at
this forum have serious potential to reach senior MIT leadership and create
real change for current and future MIT students, so bring your boldest
ideas and come have some food with us!
As always, you can share feedback about MIT's new at-cost grocery store,
TechMart, here <https://goo.gl/forms/wVE181JjQOyeozM83> or the SafeRide
Shuttle System, here <https://goo.gl/forms/jNs8Ugi9y7VoRr3U2>. Please email
ua-feedback at mit.edu in general for any feedback!
Here <http://ua.mit.edu/monthly-reports/> is the UA's September monthly
report on what each of the officers and committees has accomplished, and is
currently working on.
On behalf of UA Events, we hope you enjoyed Fallfest this past Saturday!
Nasim Pedrad, star of SNL and New Girl, took the stage in front of MIT
students and affiliates for an hour of comedy.

UNDERGRADUATE ASSOCIATION EVENTS
*First Year Experience (FYE) Forum*
As you know, MIT has implemented an experimental grading policy
<https://ovc.mit.edu/exploration-in-the-mit-first-year/> for the Class of
2022, and there are many other changes to the first year in the works that
your ideas can help shape. For example, do you have ideas for an experiment
for the Class of 2023? Or are you a first-year student with feedback on how
this year is going? Or thinking more broadly, do you have thoughts on the
overall purpose of an MIT education in the 21st century?
*UA Cabinet & Operations Meeting*
The second UA Cabinet & Operations meeting will be this Wednesday, Oct. 3rd
from 7:00 - 8:00pm in 26-110 (note, location change). Cabinet meetings are
open to all undergraduates.
*TechMart Feedback*
We're looking for students across campus who'd like to be more directly
involved with the future of TechMart, so if this interests you, please
reach out to ua-officers at mit.edu to let us know. You can also share
anonymous feedback, here <https://goo.gl/forms/wVE181JjQOyeozM83>, or send
an email to ua-feedback at mit.edu. In collaboration with Rebecca's Cafe,
TechMart will offer staples like vegetables, fruit, rice, flour, pasta,
soups, sauces, grains, spices, meats, dairy. It's located inside Rebecca's
Cafe in Walker Memorial on the second floor. It will be open during Rebecca
Cafe's regular operating hours, 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm, Monday - Friday.
*UA Council Meeting*
The second UA Council meeting minutes can be found here
<http://ua.mit.edu/minutes/>. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Oct. 10th
from 7:30 - 9:00pm in the Senate Chambers (W20-400). Council meetings are
open to all undergraduates! Add yourself to ua-council-listeners at mit.edu to
receive the agenda, meeting reminders, and minutes.
*SwipeShare Updates*
Through the SwipeShare program started last year, students on the meal plan
can donate meal swipes to a pool of meals made available to MIT students in
need. Last semester when SwipeShare started, students were only able to
donate guest meal swipes. This year, students are now able to donate both
guest meal swipes (if they are on an 'any' plan), *and* regular meal swipes
(if they are on a block plan). Students can donate here
<https://mycard.mit.edu/student/local_donate.php>! If any student is facing
food insecurity, they should visit an S3 dean in 5-104.

"Leading with Dignity: How to Create a Culture that Brings Out the Best in

In her new book, Hicks explores the under recognized role of dignity in
workplace culture. She argues that the extent to which leaders pay
attention to, recognize, and understand the dignity concerns underlying
people’s grievances makes an enormous difference as to whether leaders can
resolve conflicts, have better relationships, and remedy toxic workplace
cultures.
In this landmark book, Hicks extends the reach of her award winning book,
"Dignity: Its Essential Role in Resolving Conflict, and offers leaders a
specific, practical guide to achieving a culture of dignity".
