First Council Meeting 9/20

Hi Undergrads,

Hope you had another great week at MIT! Thanks to everyone who applied for
a Committee. Individual committees will be reaching out about interviews
and next steps.

If you missed the application deadline or want to stay involved, the first* UA
Council Meeting will be this Wednesday, September 20th at W20-400.* At
Council meetings, Council members discuss policies and initiatives
affecting all undergraduates. They are open to the public and include
dinner. We hope to see you there!

UA Retreat
UA Officers, Councilors, and Committee Chairs at the Endicott House for the
UA retreat.
On Saturday, September 16th the UA Officers, Councilors, and Committee
Chairs had their annual retreat to kick off the 2017-2018 year. Sessions
included presentations about the UA structure by Alexa Martin, the
administrative org chart by Mo Eltahir, leadership styles presented by Leah
Gallant, and unconscious bias training by Dr. JJ Jackson.
After lunch, Sarah Melvin presented broad UA goals for the upcoming year
and then had breakout sessions centered around:
- Mental health and student support
- First year academics
- Student organization funding
- Student-admin relations
- Student political engagement

are now sold out.* Fresh off of MC-in the white House Correspondents
Dinner, and releasing his very own Netflix Stand-up Special, Hasan Minhaj
is coming to MIT! Hasan Minhaj is a comedian, actor, and writer in New
York. He is a correspondent on the Emmy and Peabody award-winning program
The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, and so much more! There are bound to be
more than a few laughs in Kresge this night!

This semester, the UA Student Support and Wellness Committee has partnered
with MIT Mental Health and Counseling to revamp the hallway leading to its
offices. We would like to make the experience of coming to Mental Health
and Counseling a little less dreary by replacing the current pictures with
a colorful, mental health-inspired mural created by MIT students. If you
are interested in designing and creating a mural so that it can hang in the
hallway, please fill out this form
